Laurence "Larry" Schiffres, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Waterbury, CT, he spent his early years in Forest Hills, Queens, before returning to Waterbury at age 12. A graduate of Crosby High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Connecticut.
Larry served with distinction in the Vietnam War as a First Lieutenant, earning a Bronze Star for his exceptional performance. After his military service, he joined Levitsky & Berney as a CPA, working for 50 years before retiring as Principal Partner. He also served as a professor and lecturer at Yale University for over 30 years.
In 1969, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Susan Walzer. Together, they raised two children, Marni and Scott, and built a life in Cheshire, CT. Above all, Larry cherished his role as a grandfather to Miles and Vivian, who brought him endless joy.
He enjoyed cycling, photography, crosswords, and classic films, but his greatest pride was always in taking care of his family.
Larry is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Marni and Scott Schiffres; daughter-in-law, Amanda Reiss; grandchildren, Miles and Vivian Schiffres; sister, Judy (Marc) Stonberg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Bess Schiffres of Waterbury, CT.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth David, 3 Main Street, Cheshire, CT, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, followed by burial at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. The Robert E.
