Don Guidici
Donald Winters Guidici passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2014 at the age of 86. Don was born January 8, 1928 in Oroville, California to Fred and Myrtle (Winters) Guidici.
Don attended the Summit School for the first eight years of schooling and then attended Loyalton High School for the ninth and eleventh grades. For his last year of high school, Don transferred to Oroville High School after his father bought 2 winter ranches outside of Oroville. He graduated from Oroville High School in 1945.
After high school, Don joined the Navy. WWII was just winding down when he joined so he didn't see any battle action. Don served on the battleship USS Washington until it was decommissioned and then on the USS Amphion until his discharge after 2 years. Don never forgot his Navy service and enjoyed going to the USS Washington reunions for many years.
After his discharge from the Navy, Don took a 2 year course on animal husbandry at UC Davis. After graduating in 1950, Don returned to the family ranch in Sierra Valley where he worked and lived until his passing.
On September 28, 1952, Don married Doris Mae Jones of Loyalton. They had 4 children: David, Doug, Donna, and Diane.
Don was very active in the community. He was a lifelong member of The Sierra Valley Grange and the Farm Bureau. He was also one of the original members of the Sierra Valley Roping Club.
Don was a member of both the Butte and the Plumas-Sierra Cattlemen's associations. He was President of the Plumas-Sierra Cattlemen's Association for many years and a director for many more. Don enjoyed organizing the annual cattle sale they had in Quincy for many years.
Don was also a Plumas County Fair board member for many years. He looked forward to spending the week in Quincy helping the $-H kids with their animals.
Don was a director of the Sierra Valley Groundwater District and served on the Last Chance Creek Water District for 23 years- many of them as president.
After suffering from a stroke in 1995, Don retired from many of his community organizations, but never stopped caring about Sierra Valley.
Don was also a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. He loved learning about the history of was and enjoyed going to meetings and participating in their ceremonies.
Don is survuved by his four children: David (Fern) Guidici of Vinton, CA, Doug Guidici of Oroville, CA, Donna Guidici of Vinton, CA, and Diane Guidici of Saco, ME; one grandson, Nicholas Guidici of Saco, ME; and his sister Freida Smith of AZ.
Don is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Services will be held Thursday, march 27, 2014 at 2:00 Vinton cemetery. Gathering following at Vinton Grange.
