Evelyn G. Canepa
March 13, 1936
February 21, 2013
EVELYN GLADYS CANEPA
left this world to fulfill a greater purpose on February 21, 2013. She passed away peacefully at her residence, her family by her side, after a recent serious illness stemming from a three decade long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
A Reno native and third generation Nevadan, she attended Verdi Elementary School, Reno High School and the University of Nevada. In 1991 Evelyn retired after 36 years of faithful service to the V.A. Hospital in Reno.
She was proud of her Italian heritage and agrarian roots. In her youth, she worked on the dairy farms and cattle ranches in Verdi, Mogul and Smith Valley that were started by her immigrant grandparents.
She enjoyed the Sierra Nevada lifestyle and in her able years, avidly fished Pyramid Lake, catching many trophy cut-throat Trout. In recent years, she looked forward to summers at Tahoe, including boat rides around the lake with family and friends, spotting Osprey nests in Emerald Bay and other native wildlife.
Evelyn personified kindness, joviality, friendship and caring. Her indomitable spirit in the face of M.S. lifted and inspired those around her; her laugh was infectious, her smile unforgettable.
Evelyn and her son were each born on March Friday the 13th, 28 years apart. Both were born in St. Mary's Hospital, delivered by the same doctor. Birthdays were special celebrations for Evelyn and her son.
She is preceded in death by her parents Louis and Eva. She is survived by her lifelong friend and companion, Warren Welsh, her son Scott, her brothers Louis (Sandy), Cleve (Julie) and Gary (Lori) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Also awaiting her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, are her beloved dogs Goldy, Domi and Daisy.
Warren and the family wish to extend special thanks and love to Evelyn's caregivers Olivia, Jenny and Mary. Evelyn's family also wishes to express special thanks to the kind and diligent members of Engine Co. 11 and R.E.M.S.A.
A short Mass will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in South Reno. A celebration of life luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: The National M.S. Society, c/o Linda Lott, 4600 Kietzke Lane, Suite K-225, Reno, NV 89502 (775) 827-4257

Tho it has been many years ago that I had contact with Evy I never forgot her spontanious laughter and good wit. My heart goes out to Warren and family and I wanted to say so personally but could not attend the services due to a temporary disability. I invite Warren to contact me to renew our friendship and talk about Evy.

Evelyn and I worked together at the VA and we shared many good times. Although I haven't seen her for a long time we kept in touch.
I'll always remember her smile, laughter, and her playing the piano singing with her wonderful voice! We partied together, hung around and spent many hours talking about her son Scotty and my daughter Val who are the same age. Evelyn was so proud of Scotty!
Rest in peace my friend, I'll always have wonderful memories of the good times we shared.
