Robert Harvey! I think of him often, as I seem to have turned into a college literature professor. He threw a copy of Samuel Beckett's Watt across the room in our British Novel course; I was forever captivated. When I teach my own students today, I regularly evoke Dr. Harvey--explicitly sometimes, but more often by trying to model the wit, challenge, and creative intellect that he shared with his students. He probably wouldn't remember one random punk chick in his 1988 classroom, but he looms large in my memory as someone who helped shape me into the teacher I am today.
1962 - Freshman English...I often wonder how I lucked out to have Robert Harvey for my teacher. He opened my heart and mind to the joy of poetry and I will never forget him. I am truly saddened by his passing, but what a wonderful life he lived!

I was one of the fortunate students who sat in one of Dr Harvey's English classes at UNR in the late sixties. His great knowledge and sharp wit made us want to be at every class! He was one of a kind,, and he inspired many young minds.
Our thoughts are with you in the loss of your dad and grandfather. He will not be forgotten.
Patsy, Debbie, Liz and Alison! It's the passing of an era; I cannot imagine Reno without either of your parents in it. Bob was a huge influence in my life, one of my childhood cornerstones. I will never forget all the camping trips, holidays, and dinner parties. Much love to all of you; I hope to see you all at the service in January. XXX Cindy Altick Cunningham
Sincere condolences to the family, May your hearts be comforted with peace & loving support during this difficult time of your dear dear loss (Philip 4:6&7).
I wish I could have met this wonderful man. He is of my father's generation. Words can't express want I want to say. I will celebrate Robert Harvey, and remember him, through his wonderful daughter, Elizabeth.
My condolences to all of you -- a bright light in the English department's history!
I am truly saddened to hear that Bob is gone. Without the support of Bob and Fran, I think I would not have the career I have today, and I would not have had the great pleasure of many evenings in their warm and welcoming home. Bob was beloved by so many of us, and he will be much, much missed. My heart goes out to his family, friends, colleagues. I am lucky to have been one of those.
Dr. Harvey was without question the best English professor I studied with at UNR. He was also simply a great person. His intellect, wit, wisdom and kindess remain with me to this day. Safe travels, congratulations on a life well lived, and all the best to the Harvey family.
