Beatrice A. "Sally" Shilk, 83, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Grant Road, Ridgway, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 19, 1934 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Lawrence and Virginia Grosser Northrop. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Ridgway Area High School. Sally was a retired employee of Clarion Sintered Metals.
Sally married Melvin D. Shilk Sr., who preceded her in death April 10, 2007.
Sally was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Montmorenci Grange. She will be remembered as a very hard worker. Sally, along with her sister Virginia, owned and operated the former Buttons and Bows Yarn and Fabric Shop in Ridgway.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia O'Leary and her husband Michael of Kersey; four sons, Melvin "Rusty" Shilk and his wife Kathy of Ridgway, Charles Shilk and his wife Margaret of Brockway, Carl Shilk and his wife Dawn of Ridgway, and Edward Shilk and his wife Julie of Ridgway; 11 grandchildren, Dave Shilk, Paul Shilk, Jason O'Leary (Shannon), Carey Findlay (David), Christopher Shilk (Denna), Kyle Shilk (Heidi), Tyler Shilk, Madison Shilk, Alyssa Shilk, Amanda Shilk and Aaron Shilk; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Northrop and his wife Debbie of Columbus, Ohio; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sally was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Charlie Shilk and Gelaine O'Leary; two sisters, Virginia Steger and Pauline Smith; and by three brothers, Eugene Northrop, Lawrence Northrop and Robert Northrop in childhood.
A funeral service for Beatrice A. "Sally" Shilk will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ott Cemetery in Ridgway.
Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Tuesday morning, March 28 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk Haven Nursing Home, 785 Johnsonburg Rd., St. Marys, Pa. 15857, or to a favorite charity.
