Garland, I will miss you so much and remember you always. Our connection was unique and a once in a lifetime experience and blessing. When we met, all of your friends were telling me what a fantastic guy you were and they were all so complimentary towards you that I had to ask you, jokingly, if you had paid them all to flatter you so much in front of me. Everybody loved you and admired you for all the best reasons in the world. You were smart, witty, gentle and strong at the same time, funny, not the greatest cook..lol, but definitely one of the greatest man I have ever encountered. I will miss you and love you always! Garland was a dear man with a wonderful sense of humor, down to earth, inspiring spirituality and great hospitality. He was always interested in others and though he suffered much these last years, he never seem to complain. An amazing couragous man who helped any one that he could! When ever I would come to Florida he would offer his home and guest room graciously! I so wish that I could be there to say this to all his family.

My friend you will be missed. Garland was a Southern Gentleman. I will miss your every Holiday cheerful text always wishing the best. I will cherish the memories of our day trip to Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie then Antique shopping in Denham Springs Louisiana. While shopping in this small country town I found an old square cake plate for my Mother and I asked if you would carry it out the store for me if I bought it, your response.....Not a chance....but being the true Gentleman after the purchase you took me by the arm and arm in arm we walked out with the cake plate. It was a great day filled with lots of laughter. When my journey on this earth is complete I know I will see you in Heaven.

Uncle Peanut was a wonderful person with a big heart. Even though we were miles apart I thought about him often and always smiled. He had the best sense of humor! I will always remember visiting him in FL and him taking us to a Disney store and telling us to pick whatever we wanted. He was always so generous and loving. I have comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering but we will miss him greatly! I know he will be watching over us! Love you always!

I never got to see as much of Uncle Garland as I would have liked, but always enjoyed when he came home to visit. I remember as kid going to eat with Dad and Uncle Peanut. I remember holidays when the whole clan was together at Aunt Sharon's place. Somehow in life we fail to see how amazing those small moments were until times like these. These moments are reminders to cherish those still in this world. These moments are reminders to always make time to gather, eat, drink, and be merry. To tell stories of those who have passed. Stories that make your smile. Stories that make you laugh and cry. Stories that keep them with us. Stories till we go where they are. Love you Uncle Garland. See you on the other side.

Garland was a fighter, a can-do believer, in pushing against all odds, using his size, heart and humor when needed. He was compassionate, selfless and a visionary friend. Only the good die young. You can rest now my friend. No more pain, no more suffering. We grant to you, O Lord, his soul. He was never ours but we cherished his company. Pray for us, Garland.

My deepest condolences to all of Garland's family and friends: Garland was a dear friend to me for so many years. We met in Richmond, VA, when Garland was at VCU and have been friends through all the years. Garland's grace and humor in dealing with adversity and ill health were inspiring. He had a gentleness and kindness and a wonderful love of life. I will cherish the memories I have of him and only wish he could have been here on this earth longer. He was a very very fine man and a loyal and devoted friend. I will miss him so very much.

Garland was an old high school friend. I remember working with him in Marion during the summer at Holiday Inn and Garland always made the best of a bad situation. He and I also spent many hours on the tennis courts while in high school. Garland would always stand up for the underdog. I wish his family comfort during this time of grief.

My dear friend Garland,Admiration,Respect and Fun are the first aspects that come to mind to describe you.You are the most lovable man I have ever met and you always saw the positives, despite the pain you had to suffer.I know how much you wanted to do the normal and fun things in life, like travelling and meet with friends and looking at the leaves in the fall in VA.
Instead you had to deal with accumulating health problems.I cherish you always and carry you deep my heart.
My memories of you and what we shared are eternal.Miss you so much, even across the ocean, and it hurts more than you would ever know.Big Bear hug.I Love you!

To all of Garland's family and friends I would like to send my deepest sympathy. I have known and been his friend since he was in high school even though we have been miles apart. We were in touch and I have visited him in Florida over the years. Garland is one of the best men I ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I have the utmost respect for him. He definitely made an impact on my life, and will be sorely missed. My prayers are with you all. I love you Garland>

For My Friend Garland... Thanks for being: a good friend, confidant, co-conspirator, restaurant chow-hound, secret keeper, being older than me for a few years (hahaha) till you found out the truth; welcoming; honoring my Mom; being a good Friend to AJ; celebrating my happiness of Jorge with me; letting me show you how to set up your computer-over and over and over ; moving furniture; setting up Christmas decorations; writing Christmas cards on December 23rd; well, the list of how you were my friend would take way to long. Just to say thanks, with my tears and constant friendship doesn't seem enough. You are the best.... Just by strange coincidence today (5-23-13) I am wearing the "BIG BEAR" t-shirt you gave me a few years ago. You made a difference in my life and many others as well. Again, with Love, from your "older" friend and bud ---- Art.
