I always enjoyed his classes at Virginia Tech (I took three) and his enthusiasm for his subject and teaching. Prof. Farrar was ALWAYS willing to take extra time to answer my questions, which I always appreciated. I ran into Dr. Farrar before a VT football game eight years after I graduated and he remembered me! He was an excellent teacher, scholar, and man and will be missed. Rest in peace, Professor.

A true friend, great scholar, wonderful teacher, and treasured colleague. A continuous source of strength for me and my family. May the Lord bless Woody, his family, and all of us touched by his passing.

I was impressed by Uncle Woody's passion for education, and his unique ability to provide deep psychological insights on any subject. I love the friendship he shared with my dad (Thomas "Tano" Davis) that began before I was even born!

Uncle Woody always said he admired our family and that I was like a daughter to him. He supported me in many of my endeavors, such as dance recitals, graduations, and church activities. I remember how he used to surprise us at church when he was in town visiting his mother.

I will always cherish the time we shared.

I had the great fortune to take the History of the Vietnam War with Woody in the Fall of 2003. He shared the progression of American involvement in Vietnam with us as the Iraq War unfolded in a way that made history very real and relevant, without passing judgement.
Dr. Farrar was a genuine teacher and patriotic soldier who made our world a better place. Rest in Peace.

Woody was a life-long friend. One who "sticks closer than a brother". Always dependable and could be counted on to stay in contact even when separated by miles, oceans and circumstances. He acknowledged that it was by God's grace that he achieved what he desired. He became a doctor (Ph.D); he taught at HBCUs (several); he became a leader and person of influence (UMCP Black Student Union, Naval officer, student mentor); he was published; he traveled the world, including visiting Major League Baseball parks around the country. The only unmet desire of which I am aware was his passion to become a husband and father, but God knew what was best for Woody. We are privileged to call him "friend" and our daughters to call him "Uncle Woody". His departure to us seems untimely, but we are comforted in knowing he has achieved his greatest accomplishment when on May 31, 2013 he graduated from earthly life to eternity with Jesus Christ. We look forward to a great reunion day. We pray God's comfort for Woody's family and friends as we will miss his presence.
