Jim was truly special to our family. Whenever we (my late husband Steve Richards) visited on our furloughs from Turkey and Germany, he would take our four kids either outside or to his basement and occupy them with all sorts of games, even golf. He taught them to play tennis and let them ride on his special bike. The kids loved going to the Roberts. Jim had such a kind and loving heart. He loved his family and demonstrated that love to us. We learned so much from Jim and Ruth Anne. I am praying much for all of you who remain behind but know that one day there will be a beautiful reunion. Oh, what a day that will be!!!

Ruth Ann, Sharon & Marcie, we are so sorry to read of Jim's passing. To Sam & Kate Murdock, there was no finer man, he was always so kind to them, as he was to everybody. Our thoughts and prayers to you during this difficult time.

I am saddened to hear about Mr. Roberts passing. He was a fine man that never met a stranger. My mom, Nina Medley, was a long-term customer at Williamson Rd Pharmacy prior to her passing and she greatly admired and respected Mr. Roberts. Although I am no longer in Roanoke, I will always cherish his smile, sense of humor and his friendliness toward all. May peace be with his family during this difficult time.

JIM WAS A GREAT MAN, GREAT FRIEND , AND ONE OF THE SMARTEST NICEST PEOPLE I HAVE KNOWN. MAY HIS FAMILY HAVE PEACE IN THE KNOWLEDGE THAT HE IS WITH GOD AND FREE OF ANY PAIN OR DISCOMFORT OF ANY KIND. MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Everytime I saw Mr. Roberts, he was filled with joy. My first job before college was at the pharmacy. I worked at the luncheon counter in the evening. One night, around 8:30 pm, I received a call for a "to go" order for 11 banana splits!! I was already overwhelmed with the regular counter patrons and cleaning up for the night. As I began to organize the order, I heard hysterical laughter coming from the pharmacy...well, from the steps where Mr. Roberts was hiding to make the "to-go call".
He was a wonderful boss and always welcoming every time I saw him after that summer job in 1970.
With sympathy,

It was an extreme pleasure to know Jim. He would always lift us up with his kindness and compassion. He comforted us with his biblical advice of "Be Anxious for Nothing!". He was right, as usual. Jim was our employer, genuine friend, and mentor. The women loved JIm, and why not?...He had a way of making you feel special...and he cared..boy, did he care! He had the gift of youthfulness, laughter, and was quite the jokester! Tim and I could call Jim for advice anytime, anywhere, and he took the time to listen!! We love you Ruth Ann, enjoy your memories, I know that we will. And we will see him again in Heaven, no more tears, no more pain. Hugs to your sweet family! Much Love, Tim and Dana
