Nelson Thomas Perdue, 73, of Salem, passed away Sunday morning, November 10, 2013, at his home. He was the loving husband of Mary Ann Martin Perdue. Born March 18, 1940, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Wilton (Ballard) Charles Perdue and Annie Wilson Perdue, of Copper Hill. In addition to his wife, Nelson is survived by his brother, Stanley Perdue and Virginia, of Salem; two sisters, Joyce Willis, of Roanoke County and Janice and Danny Mallory, of Check; a brother-in-law, Roy D. Martin, of Hiwassee; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a son and daughter. His dearest friends include Tommy and Kathy Cundiff, John StClair, Sonny and Rachel Campbell, and Eugene (Peanut) Simpkins.
Nelson was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He retired from General Electric of Salem in 2002 with 37 years of service.
The family would like to thank the Dialyses Center of Salem for their compassionate care. Special thanks go to the neighbors of Beverly Heights for their friendship and help during Nelson's illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Lotz Salem Chapel with Pastor Art Hearne officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem. Online condolences may be sent to www.lotzfuneralhome.com
