John was a good friend and fellow park ranger at the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA) for 20 years. In addition to his regular ranger duties, John was a long-time department firearms instructor and range master.
John was a founding officer of the State Park Peace Officers Association (SPPOAC) which represented the interests of rangers statewide. He also was an important and active contributor to the 125th Ranger Anniversary and many other ranger events and anniversaries. John was also a Life Member of the International Police Assoc (IPA) and a founding member of IPA Region 29 in the greater Sacramento area and Northern California.
Some of John's ranger exploits were even chronicled in the best selling book "Nature Noir" by Jordan Fisher Smith, where he appeared under the name "Ron O'Leary".
John was solid and effective state park ranger and someone I could always count on to help out his fellow rangers.
Happy fishing on the other side John...Mike Lynch, ranger & superintendent, Calif. State Parks, Auburn SRA.
