MARSHALL A. JOHNSON, 90 ROCKFORD - Marshall A. Johnson, 90, of Rockford, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, in SwedishAmerican Hospital after a short illness. Born July 19, 1922, in Oak Park, Minn., son of Clarence and Ada (Johannson) Johnson. At an early age the family left the farm in Minnesota and moved back to Rockford. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy where he served aboard LST 841 in the Pacific during WWII and was awarded two bronze stars. Marshall married Catherine Banks on May 12, 1950. He worked at Sundstrand Machine Tool and later at White Sundstrand in Belvidere for 43 years. After retiring, he and his wife spent many winters in Arizona and Florida. Member of Broadway Covenant Church where he attended for many years. Survived by wife of 62 years, Catherine; children, Marcia and Bradley of Rockford; sister, Thyra Fradine of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Allton Carlson of Loves Park; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; sisters and brother-in-laws, Violet (Rev. Arthur) Anderson, Norma (Vernon) Strombeck, and Lillian (Gordon) Hillemeyer; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley (Margaret) Johnson; and brother-in-laws, Walter Fradine, Ralph Allton, and Gerald Carlson. Special thanks to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center for their compassionate care. Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd, Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with the Reverends Dick Rasanen and Joyce Cosman officiating. Private family burial.
