What a loss! Mr. Slaughter was so kind to me when I started college as an "old" 38 yrs. His humor never failed to brighten my day and make me realize why I had embarked on a journey that is normally enjoyed by those much younger! Bless you, his family, for I know you shall miss him.

Robert (Bob to me then) and I met when we were 22-year old, new students at the University of Heidelberg - fall of 1959. He was a full foot taller than I, and we made quite an impression on the locals when entering one of his favorite bars or restaurants. Even then, he was full of good stories and good humor, and I enjoyed every moment spent with him. He could size up a restaurant instantly with a look at the menu and always knew what would be best to order. He made many friends of many nationalities while there. His love for the German language and culture was exemplary.
In the summer of '61 we returned to the US by ship and went our separate ways but stayed in touch by phone for birthdays. I visited him three times in the many years since and got to know Luanne, Lee, and David, all of whom he was justifiably proud. His death is a huge loss to me and to his friends in Europe.

Dear family & friends of Dr. Slaughter,
Know each of you are in my thoughts & prayers during this time of your loss. In 1979 after my severe car accident in July '78 causing extensive brain damage, Dr. Slaughter's was my first class, sophomore literature. I appreciate his help & encouragement! Saw him in a restaurant in Lubbock in '80. He bought me a beer sending it to my table. I appreciated his kind gesture. Praying for you, Pastor Sid Hill, Blackberry Baptist Church
