Adelbert Haueter Obituary

1923 - 2015

Adelbert Glenn Haueter
Jan 19, 1923 to Mar 03, 2015

Of Fair Oaks, CA. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, 92 year old, retired Lt. Colonel A. G. Haueter, passed away peacefully at Kurt and Michelle's home in Elverta, CA. Delbert was the husband of the late Lucy Ann Parkinson Haueter, married for 52.5 years, and they were the parents of nine children: Marianne (Fred) Roberts, Jeannette (Dean) Lindsay, Naomi (Russ) Harper, Eric, KP (Bonnie), Kurt (Michelle), David (Laura), Michael, and Charlotte (David) with 46 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 6 arriving this year. Delbert is the son of Carl John Haueter and Cleo Maud Watson.

Delbert grew up in Salt Lake City during the depression. At 14, he would take his baby sister, Shirley, in the stroller while pulling a wagon to pick up produce and eggs from downtown to sell in his neighborhood. He also would ride horses while running sheep through downtown Salt Lake City from one pasture to another. He graduated from East High School and the University of Utah in 1950 with a BS degree in sociology. Delbert married the love of his life, Lucy Ann Parkinson, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple, June 13, 1947. They were married for 52.5 years until Lucy's passing on January 13, 2000.

A highly decorated World War II, Korean and Viet Nam War veteran Delbert had a distinguished military career in the United States Air Force for 38 years. He received numerous awards and decorations during his career including the Distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals, and two Meritorious Service medals. Delbert was a Master Navigator and earned the Senior Missileman's Badge. He was stationed worldwide in Puerto Rico, Thailand, Colorado, Utah, Texas, California. His Air Force duties took him to Germany, Morocco, Guam, Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, and Alaska.

Devoted to his wife and family, he served them during his 42 years of retirement. Delbert cared for the widow and the fatherless with his many quiet acts of service. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Delbert served as a bishop, bishopric counselor, LDS serviceman group leader in Thailand, branch clerk, physical facilities representative for Mormon Center, high councilor, in the Young Mens program including scouting. Two days before passing, Delbert was out with his son, Kurt, visiting the church members. Kurt and Michelle Haueter lovingly cared for 'Grandpa Haueter' in their Elverta home during the last four years of his life. One of his important responsibilities was to gather the eggs. Grandpa Haueter passed peacefully early Tuesday morning, March 03, in Michelle's arms. Michelle said, "You aren't leaving me, are you, Grandpa?" Grandpa Haueter was going home.

Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, March 10, with a viewing at 9:30 am and the funeral beginning at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8267 Deseret Avenue, Fair Oaks, CA., military honors. Interment will be on March 13, in the Salt Lake City Cemetery with full military honors.

We'll always remember our first bishop as newlyweds in Wichita Falls. He saw to it that I got a job on base, and that we were invited over for cantaloupe and ice cream on summer evenings. Great memories of your family. He was a good man.

I am so sorry to hear of Brother Haueter's passing. What a great man. He was my first seminary teacher, and was always so patient and kind. I hope that the kids in my Sunday school class feel a similar warmth and welcome like he gave to us.
