McKINNEY, Ernest Gene
'Mac'
Born 8/3/40 in Alpoca WVA. Passed away on 9/28/12 at home with his family. He fought a hard fight against dementia/alzheimer's for 4 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years LaVonne McKinney, daughter Michele Underwood (Jeff) of Colton, CA., son Todd Cole (Jasmine) of Grand Rapids, MI, loving sister Phyllis McKinney, Mullens WVA, mother-in-law Mae Nutter, brother-in-law Curt Nutter (Carrie) and 9 grandchildren who he loved very much. Lots of fun memories.
Preceded in death, his parents Ernest and Pauline McKinney and sister Betty McKinney.
Gene served 4 years in USAF, then went to work at Corti Bros for 35 years. He loved his customers, always enjoyed a good conversation. He always loved giving all the kids 'the special bread sticks." He was a good, loving man with a great smile and a big heart. After retiring he worked at Twelve Bridges Golf Course and Haggen Oaks Golf Course. Enjoyed the people and friends. He loved his Kings, golf, going to many concerts with his wife, going fun places with his grandchildren, family and friends, and The Best Bar-B-Que anywhere.
Many thanks to Eskaton Day Care. Dr. Elizabeth Kailath and staff, Mercy Home Healthy, Mercy Hospice, and all of our friends and neighbors for all their special help. 'All' of them are 'Our Special Angels' On Earth.

Mac taught me how to bag groceries at the old Corti Bros at 32nd and Folsom. Later, we worked together at the 59th St. store back in the 70's. He was a great guy. Always had a smile and a good word for everybody. Sorry for your loss Levonne.

Most of my memories of Mr. McKinney are from the times spent hanging out with his daughter Michele at their house in junior high and high school. I remember a wonderful, kind, thoughtful, intelligent, entertaining, funny man who clearly loved and cherished Michele, a daughter who shares all of those wonderful qualities.
My thoughts, prayers and love go out to the family. I join you in mourning Gene's passing, celebrating his life and thanking God for him.
