George GRECO Obituary

GRECO, George Michael
Born October 13, 1918 in Frostburg, Maryland to Joseph and Rose Greco, immigrants from Italy, George was the eighth of nine kids. The children grew up in a home where family comes first. There may not have been a lot of material things, but there was love of family which was ingrained into Dad, and then into each of his children. For that Dad, we thank you!

Dad was one of the elite- while attending college in 1940 World War II had started, but with a strong sense of patriotism he joined the Army and became part of the Fourth Infantry until he was sent to Officer Cadet School. After he finished training he served as a Bombardier/Navigator on a B-24 Liberator. Later he was sent to England to join the 8th Army Air Corp. and after completing 31 missions (including D-Day) he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Dad was also a veteran of the Korean War. The last years of Dad's service were spent at McClellan Air Force Base where he retired in 1966 after 25 years of service to his country.

Dad had two loves in his life. The first was our Mother, Evelyn Greco (nee Cunningham); together they created and held our family values strong. Mom passed in 1979 which was hard on Dad so he started fishing. Not a day went by that he did not pick up a fishing pole. The salmon, small and large mouth bass were not safe when Dad was fishing. Bowling, his second pastime, was where he met his second love- Maxine. Maxine and Dad enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling. Maxine passed in 2010. What is amazing to all of us is that Dad lived in his home until he passed January 10, 2014.

To say that he will be missed is an understatement! Family Christmas gatherings were his favorite as that is where the entire family got together to celebrate the union of love (21 at last count).

Dad is survived by his four children, Michele (Roseville), Mike and wife Cheri (Sacramento), Mark (Sacramento) and Melanie (Sacramento), seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren + numerous nieces & nephews. Private services were held January 17, 2014.

In our family Dad was Capo de tutti il Capo / Ti voGliamo tanto bene Papa. We love you Dad
