I was in the class of '71. Jim was the best teacher I ever had anywhere, and a great moot court coach. I called on him from time to time after graduating, for his advice and counsel. What a funny and brilliant guy. He would tape his classes, and play them back in his office. Rumor was that he could sometime be heard laughing at his own remarks. I still remember many of his stories. Most importantly, he was just a good man.
Professor Hogan was an inspiration to all of us, both as a person and a legal sage. His stories and humor enriched our lives. My deepest condolences to all his loved ones.
Condolences to all of Professor Hogan's extended family and loved ones. He was a great professor and friend, a man who, outside of my immediately family, who served as a role model and a person you wanted to be just like. Its been twenty years, but I remember like yesterday, singing over Harp/Guiness with him words I didn't know to A Nation Once Again. I waited too long to send that last thank you email to him.
Our sincere condolences to Jan and the Barnes family. His memory will live in your hearts forever.
May we all find comfort in wonderful memories... We will miss you Uncle Jim.
Thank you for everything, Jim! AMDG
I have been lucky enough to be the recipient of your wisdom as my parent and as a human being. To watch your humor in life and at the dinner table. To see how you tenderly treated a teenager with a broken heart as well as a stranger on the street. I will forever miss your kind spirit and your sense of humor. I love you.
Our family was fortunate to know him. He was a wonderful person and will truly be missed. With love and respect...THE SOTOS
Mr Hogan was a family friend of my parents and he always made me laugh. When I was growing up I went to 49er football games with him and my dad and he teased me when they lost accusing me of jinxing his team but it was always said in very good humor. He was a kind and thoughtful man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. My thoughts are with his family and his many friends at this sad time.
James Hogan you were my hero! I am so glad you were my professor and my friend! You were so giving to me and I will never forget your keen intellect, humility, generosity, helpfulness, humor and just plain kindness! You made me a better lawyer and human being!
I had Professor Hogan for Evidence when he taught at McGeorge as a visiting professor and he was by far the best teacher I have ever had. He had his own textbook that was the most concise and clearest explanation of the law that I have ever come across.
I am so fortunate to be his son and to have him as a role model as I raise my own children. Love you Dad.
Professor Hogan was my role model. Because of him, I became interested and teaching and taught Civil Procedure for many years but never as well as Professor Hogan. He brought professionalism and good humor to the classroom. The phrase "one of a kind" is often overused but it applies in Professor Hogan's case. Thank you, Professor Hogan, for your guidance and commitment.
Mr. Hogan: I had the pleasure of meeting you at my sister Gabby's and Kerry's wedding. Thank you for all your accomplishments and for being the loving, humble and giving person Gabby described you to be. Your time has to come to depart but my heart tells me you are at a better place. Until we all meet again, in heaven, please watch over us. May you rest in peace.

In my heart for all eternity, love you dearly Jim.
