To the Dew family. My heart goes out to you and your family and also to his fiancee. I too am a Marine mom. Our boys left for bootcamp together. I remember you well because on that September day when we dropped our sons off at the recruiters office in Granite Bay your son was the only one in the group who was going straight into infantry. I remember praying for you especially because of that. My son called to tell of his friend he had once known. Our hearts go out to all of you, God Bless you all.

TO: PFC VICTOR DEW FAMILY. PLEASE ACCEPT OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU. ALTHOUGH WE DID NOT KNOW YOUR SON, WE LEARNED OF HIS DEATH THROUGH OUR SON SGT. LENTZ A MARINE SERVING WITH THE 3/5. HE NOTIFIED US THAT HE WOULD BE ESCORTING VICTOR HOME, JUST PRIOR TO HIS ARRIVAL BACK TO THE USA. ALTHOUGH VICTOR WAS NOT A PART OF OUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY HE WAS A PART OF OUR MARINE FAMILY AND AS WELL A PART OF OUR AMERICAN FAMILY. IT IS BECAUSE OF FINE YOUNG MEN LIKE VICTOR WHO PUT THERE LIVES ON THE LINE THAT WE CAN ENJOY THE FREEDOMS WE HAVE IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY OF OURS. MAY GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY, FOR YOUR SONS ULTIMATE SACRIFICE AND LOVE OF HIS COUNTRY.

Dear Dew family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Victor will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC Victor Dew our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Victor. And to Victor it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Victor, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Victor’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

Forever Grateful For Your Ultimate Sacrifice
We too live in Granite Bay. We too have a Son who wanted to be a Marine from the time he was eleven. We too have a son who graduated from High School (Oakmont). We too went to his Graduation in San Diego in the Month of December. He too was 3rd Battalion 5th Marines. He too was engaged prior to deployment. He too served two tours in Iraq. He too was hit by an IED. He too lost several fellow Marines.

With all that took place and certainly the hardest time of our lives…. He asked me to please write President Bush and tell him “I proudly give my life for my country” I did, and I added and “I give you my son”.
When he came home, HE WANTED TO GO BACK! Please know that it is young men like OUR SONS that make this country great. Please know that Victor is loved and honored by millions of people and will never be forgotten no matter how silent it becomes…

Victor is a Hero’s Hero...

Rest Peacfully Marine. You are America's Son.
