James CARRIGER Obituary

CARRIGER, James Robert

Jim passed on October 4, 2012, at the age of 83, joining his son who preceded him. His five daughters will miss his wit, humor, and love. In 1968, a misunderstood mental illness estranged the family, but recent medical advances made it possible for them to reunite. The family wishes to offer hope for the gift of healing and love for those in similar hard circumstances.

In December 1947, Jim joined the United States Air Force at the age of 18, making it his career until he retired on January 31, 1968. His tours of duty included Alaska,

Wyoming, Morocco, Texas, California, New York, Utah, Washington, and the Philippines. He served his country at Strategic Air Command (SAC) bases such as the Nouasseur Air Force Base in Morocco, which played a critical role during forward deployment exercises in the 1950's.

Jim's hobbies included flying, hunting big game, fishing, tinkering with mechanical things, and hunting treasures in flea markets. These hobbies produced fond memories in each daughter's heart, giving them a rich legacy. For this, they are grateful to their father.

They are also grateful to Florin Healthcare Center's staff, who provided a loving environment for the past nine years, and Dave Sanders for becoming their father's special friend. The excellent medical staff at UC Davis also needs to be thanked for their heroic efforts on their father's behalf.

Services will be held on October 22, 2012, at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, California. The military burial will start promptly at 2:30 p.m. Honor guards will perform a 21-gun salute and a flag ceremony-a fitting tribute for a man who loved and served his country and who never gave up on his family. Anyone who wishes to celebrate Jim's life is invited to attend.
