DAVIS, John L. 'Jack'
Passed away July 30, aged 86, at his home, after prolonged illness. He was the son of Elmer and Flora Davis of Pleasant Grove.
Jack graduated from East Nicolaus High at age 16 in 1943 & spent 1 year at San Mateo JC until able to join the army, where he served in the 82nd Airborne until 1946. After the war, he attended Stanford University and received his engineering degree. He spent 10 years as a design engineer at Aerojet-General and the rest of his life farming, mainly rice, on the family farm in South Sutter County.
During his life in the county, Jack served on the Community Memorial Museum Commission, Sutter County Planning Commission, the South Sutter Soil Conservation Dist. and the Sutter County Grand Jury. Jack was a lifelong member of the Nicolaus Lodge No. 129 F. & A.M. and Master of the South Sutter Grange and member of American Legion Haggin-Grant Post 521. He also managed the Red Sox of the Senior Division South Sutter Little League.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dale, and their four sons, Lauren of Woodland, Peter of San Anselmo, Stuart and Scott of Rocklin, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 5, at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 2701 Howsley Road, Pleasant Grove, CA., 95668. Family suggests that donations in his memory be made to South Sutter Recreation Association Pool Fund, P.O. Box 225, Nicolaus, CA, 95659.

Dee and I am sorry to hear of Jacks passing.
Meeting Jack at a young age set into motion a clarity of vision that very much helped me define what I should value in the coming years. I am sure that I am not the only that had his, or her, life enriched by meeting him. He will be missed.
