Audie

June 15, 2014

Ah, Mr. Henry, my first 'man' teacher and best elementary school teacher at Hollywood Park! He saw me as a real human being. I know that sounds strange, but he was the first teacher I ever had that enjoyed me and truly valued me. As a Japanese American in those years, I often felt I wasn't accepted for being different. But he was beyond prejudice. I memorized "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" our weekly Friday recitations. He encouraged us, he told jokes, he let us play jacks inside the classroom when it was too hot to study (no air conditioning in 1964). He understood kids and I still have the autograph book he signed for me when it was time to move on to 7th grade. Family members, I know you know what a great person he was. He certainly made a difference in my life.

Mr. Henry was my sixth grade teacher more than 50 years ago. I have found memories about him and the way he encouraged his students to overcome shyness and learn how to speak and recite in front of our class. (I wrote a poem about him that I recited that he thought was funny and I gave it to him).

Any child who had him as their teacher was a lucky one. My kindest regards go out to his family.

Many, many fond memories of our families spending time together. Paul and his pipe,I can still smell the aroma. He was a wonderful man. My deepest sympathy Audie, Marla & Lynn. I am sure our fathers are up there "Kibitzing" once again. Love, Susie

Marla & Family,
Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I'm sure if your Dad a chance to say a few last words to All of you, especially his beloved Grandchildren, those words would be: "Remember me as loving you"!

Warm summer sun
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
— Mark Twain.
We will miss you dear Paul. You were a pleasure to know.
Dear Audie and family take care of yourselves. We love you.
