For Mother, My Love

Love is a word I used as a child
For affection and need and caring -
"I love you, Mommy," like silk from my lips,
For a day we were especially sharing.

Then as I grew, my vision did, too -
I saw love is suffering and pain;
You gave and you gave and you sacrificed -
Example exceeds earthly gain.

My own motherhood is lived out in your light -
Mother love is a circle revered;
Each link in the necklace, from Mother to child,
Grows stronger by bonds endeared.

For each is secured by strength drawn from God,
Through each flows a faith from above.
So in His pure grace you are honored today
By one so dear - blessed by your love.

Written by Mom for her Mom, our Grandma Mimi, for Mother's Day 1980, these words so beautifully express my thoughts, feelings and love for my Mom, too. I miss you, Mom, and love you so much. I know you did your best and we are better because of YOU and your love for us.

Love,
Amy Lisa

I miss you very much, Mom. I wish we could have had more time together but it was not to be.

You were a loving, caring and devoted mother and I have many treasured childhood memories because of you: drawing and painting on summer afternoons on a very large roll of blank newsprint paper that you would get from the Sac Bee and spread out on the back patio for us; making lemonade from our own tree; playing badminton with my sibs; riding tricycles crazily down the hill on our street; running through sprinklers, climbing trees, jumping in leaf piles; peanut butter and pickle sandwiches and graham cracker cookies filled with leftover frosting that were cold from the frig; tagging along with you to the Towne & Country art exhibit each year; listening to the thunder and watching the lightning from my bedroom window on rainy nights together. These are some of my favorite to recall.

Thank you for a wonderful childhood and time spent together. I wish you were still here with us.

I love you,

~ Suzie

SHE is Mom

Dedicated to Robyn Burmood
5/18/36-2/4/13

She often stayed up all night long
Sewing a dress like a birthday song
The whirring sound of the old machine
Replays itself within my dreams

German chocolate cakes for buds
Trikes & dolls & tubby time suds
She loved to scoot us out to play
Knowing sunshine made our day

Happy memories I choose to recall
Like galloping horses with my tammy doll
Swinging from the weeping willow
Almond eating till nap time's pillow

Air conditioned cartoon times
Selling lemons, making dimes
A helping hand, she'd always lend
For homework time or games attend

If we awoke from dreams disturbed
She was there to comfort and curb
Should we have pain from a trip and fall
Band-Aids appeared at our beckon call

Stories and hugs to soothe our hearts
She squeezed our earlobes when we'd part
Kissing our necks was a favorite of hers
But we preferred nuzzling our kitty furs

When my heart feels sad and heavy
I picture her spirit dancing with Betty
For I believe with all my heart
Heaven's her home while we are apart

SHE is Mom, who gave us life
And though her own was filled with strife
She loved her children very deep
And that's the memory I'm bound to keep.
