Virgil was a master at his craft. He knew politics well and was a terrific reporter. He wrote with a great passion for our state and his readers. I learned a great deal about how to conduct myself in the Capitol and how to treat others from observing Virgil, over the years. Our state is all the better for Virgil having served in the Capitol for so many years.

Virgil was a worthy competitor and a great Senate staff colleague. He was old school. If I was interviewing a lawmaker, Virgil would ask if it was ok to join in. He knew how things work in the Capitol in the way that few reporters do. He will be missed.

Virgil was a great neighbor and an asset to Sutter Village. His work on the Sutter Village Newsletter was outstanding. And was a good example of his journalistic skills. We will never again see a Newsletter written that well. RIP

I'm deeply sadden to hear of the loss of such a wonderful man. He truly had a beautiful heart. He was a kind Grandfather to our girls. He always had their best interests. He would travel to Reno to countless softball tournaments and could always hear him cheer them on. He will be deeply missed. My condolences go out to Carol, Kenny, Dave, Stephanie, Emily, and Logan.

Virgil will always be a favorite co-worker and friend. He had the best Oakland stories & a journalist's ear for tales tall and peculiar. He loved his family & his friends and is missed.

Virgil was a dear friend whose wit and humor were welcome at all gatherings. We'll miss him more than he would ever believe!

Virgil was an extraordinary reporter of activity in the State Capitol. His commitment to thorough, intelligent reporting and journalistic integrity was well known. He didn't write to sell papers, he wrote to inform. He cared deeply for the process and the people engaged in that process. A great sense of humor, a warm personality and a commitment to professional reporting resulted in his being liked, respected and appreciated. He will be missed.
