Renee & family:
I first met Kevin with BW Co. in 1986. He was in the first ever MCR training class that I was asked to run with Barb Lyster. Kevin was a special person and loved by all. He was a great professional but even better person. I enjoyed his sense of humor and comraderie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

I just today learned of Kevin's passing, I am so deeply saddened to hear of this tragedy . I worked with him years ago. We meet when Glaxo and Burroughs Wellcome merged. He showed me the ropes as a new hospital rep. What a gift! Our careers went different directions and I have not had the privilege to work with him in years but I have never forgotten what a fine man he was. He was truly the best of the best! Kevin was always incredibily caring and so ethical but such a fantastic salesman! He truly was someone every other sales professional strived to be like. Your family's loss is truly horrific but our company and industry has also lost a giant. He will be missed.
March 15, 2012
I am so sorry to hear about Kevin's passing. Know that the whole family is in my prayers. May the peace of the Lord be with all of you during this difficult time. I work at GSK and heard of and about him but never met him.

I'm very sad to hear about the passing of Mr. McConnell... When I was younger he would take care of me like I was one of his kids. Letting me stay the night for 3 nights straight, driving me to basketball, baseball, and football games. Being a coach and mentor for much of my life growing up. He definitely was a father figure to me. Even just writing this is starting to choke me up. Thinking of how close I was to the family. I love you guys! Tyler and Glenda Dwyer.
March 14, 2012
I was shocked to hear of the loss of Kevin. I enjoyed playing rec. basketball with him on his former home court at MacArthur. I met Kevin through a mutual friend Scott Seamon. Mike and Dan, my prayers are with you at your time of sadness. May you take all of the positive qualities of your brother and pass them on to the next generation.
March 14, 2012
Our deepest sympathy to all of Kevin's family. He was a fine character of a man; a great sense of humor and a big smile for everyone. He was a wonderful classmate at DMHS.
March 14, 2012
I live in a complete make believe world, Kevin's passing hit me like a ton of bricks and brought me back to reality. I had not seen Kevin in years but his sense of humor and friendship in our formative years has stuck with me through out my life. To the McConnell family, I can't express my sorrow for your loss ... Goodbye to our Five Star General!!
March 14, 2012
Renee and family,
I want to express my deepest sympathy. I worked closely with Kevin last year and truly considered him a close friend. I was honored to have had the chance to observe him with his customers and see the tremendous respect that they had for him. We loved to talk about our families, golf, and hunting and our lives outside of GSK too. I was also asked to send deepest sympathy from the Indy/Kentucky Region- Terri Oyler, Pat Mason, Jay White, Bob Phelps, Phyllis Kiefer, David Glenn, Chtisty Carter, Cindy Reed, and Russell Powell.

Dear Renee and Family,
I have known Kevin for the past 17 years. Kevin competed with Tom Hetzner with antibiotics and with myself in anesthesia. Kevin was the most well liked pharmaceutical representative. He was a role model to us all. If I had to use one word to describe Kevin it would be: CLASS! A true gentleman that will be missed by all who knew him.

May the memories of your husband and father always keep a smile on your face and warmth in your heart! God grant you all peace.

A SPARTAN huh? well, maybe in Heaven Kevin will become a BUCKEYE!!!
All my love to you all.

My deepest sympathy to Renee & family.
I was devastated when I heard the news of Kevin's passing. I met Kevin in 2000 when I started with Glaxo-Welcome. He made working fun with his dry wit & contagious smile. His family meant the world to him, he always spoke of you. He will be missed by all who knew him. I hope soon good memories replace the sadness you feel today. My thoughts & prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Barb and family, Renee, Kelli, Shane and Megan:
I am so honored and blessed to have had Kevin as my brother-in-law. Barb, I am so glad he chose to be a part of the Light family. Kevin's humor, love, care, and wit was always appreciated at our family events. Renee, the love you and Kevin shared is one of a kind. Thanks for being such a good example of what a marriage is all about. Kelli, Shane and Megan, I'm so glad we were blessed by God with you three. Continue to make your Dad proud and know that we will always watch out for you just as your Dad did. You (3) are such a blessing in my life and I thank Kevin and Renee for that. I cherish the memories of Kevin and will never forget what an awesome brother-in-law he was. (Tino or Turtle Tina as Kevin called me)
March 13, 2012
Worked with Kevin at GlaxoSmithKline and saw his amazing humor, kind heart, and thoughtfulness with everyone who crossed his path. What a truly exceptional person. My deepest prayers to his family.
March 13, 2012
To the McConnell Family:

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Kevin's death. While the years and miles have created a barrier that many of us live with everyday, as a member of the old “Frost Drive Gang”, I wanted to share that many of my fondest childhood memories were those gathered at or around the McConnell house putting together pickup baseball games, basketball games, football games, or even driveway wiffle ball.

It certainly comes as no surprise that Kevin was active in coaching youth teams; in his youth he was generally in the middle of organizing every pickup game we had (often more than one a day); and he got everyone playing - older or younger. For those that grew up in the neighborhood, I'm sure these are all great memories.

Best wishes and prayers to your entire family.
March 13, 2012
Mike, it was so sad to hear of the loss of your brother. You know I would be with you at this time were it not for the miles that separate us. Please know that we are thinking of you during this time of sorrow.

Renee and family, please know that we share the sympathies and sadness expressed so many times over on these pages. Your friends use many variants of adjectives to describe Kevin's inimitable qualities -- great, amazing, witty, comical, awesome, mentoring and warm are a few. They are all accurate. To this list, I would add magnetism. But the common theme to which all these observations point is this: Kevin used his gifts of personality to positively touch the lives of just about everyone who had the good fortune to know him. One wanted to be his friend, and was honored to be considered as such. We will all miss him greatly.

To the entire McConnell family: Words cannot begin to express the shock and sadness we felt at hearing of Kevin's accident. I met him, as many did, as a pleasant drug rep visiting the office where I worked. He became a friend to us over many years, sharing many stories of our children's accomplishments and a sporting Michigan-Michigan State rivalry! We will miss our friend, and send prayers of consolation to all his family and friends.
March 13, 2012
Dear Renee and Family,

So sorry to hear about Kevin. It's been a few years since we have been neighbors on Amanda Street. But we remember Kevin as always being a kind and loving person. Just know that you and your children are in our thoughts and prayers. We are thinking of you at this sad time in your lives.

Take Care,

To the McConnell Family: No words can express an understanding of the loss of Kevin well before his time, but please do know that the memories of the past three years that I have had the pleasure of knowing, working with Kevin shall remain. The ever present smile and laughter coming from him in person, as well as over the phone shall be the image of remembrance for me; I am a better person for having known Kevin. People may say, "he is in a better place." I, for one, feel a better place is at home with family, or at a local pub enjoying time with close friends....but somethings we can't control. One simple statement has stuck with me for many years that unfortunately fits this time, "ours is not to know, ours is to wonder why." All my best, try to smile as I believe Kevin would want it that way.
March 12, 2012
Mr. McConnell along with being one of my best friend, Shane's dad, was a father figure and friend to me as well. He was the greatest man his family and friends could ask for and that will never be forgotten.

I know the guys always enjoyed talking about the Spartans together. Stay strong. Kevin and Lori Sims and girls.
March 12, 2012
My blessings and love for the McConnell family cannot improve on all the good friendship that has shown itself here. Kevin was such an extraordinary person. He was kind, a gentlemen, and always had such a wit. Dry sarcasm with a large dose of humor is how I remember him.

I remember feeling really excited about having another big Irish family to be friends with when we first moved to Saginaw. Along with the McQuillans, it felt like a hilarious 'Irish Mob'.

It is hard to lose a sibling no matter the age. In time it will ease, but you had many great years with Kevin. He lives on through his wife and children. You are all wonderful brothers and sisters.

I send special prayers for your mother, Barbara, and his wife and children. I wish I could do something to ease the pain for you all.

My love to all, especially Ann, my old friend --- Kathleen O'Brien and family

Finding any words that could sum up how much love I have for my Uncle Kevin is very difficult. From arguing with Goose over the age old Michigan/Michigan State rivalry to sitting out in the fields hunting, these will be my fondest memories. All of the laughs shared out hunting, driving around Saginaw, or just sitting around the house are what remind me of the joy he shared with us. I'm truly grateful to have been very close with him and I'm honored to have been named after such an amazing and strong man. This is a not a goodbye, for we will meet again.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kevin was a fantastic person, always kind and friendly to everyone. I went to High school with Kevin and he called on the Dr.'s where I work at Covenant. He was always talking about his family and what his children were doing. Gods peace to your family as Heaven welcomes him home. Karen (Bartlett) Haenlein

Renee:
My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your children. It has been a long time since my mother and I were in New York and attended the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with you, Kevin, and Tony & Maribeth Wood back in the Burroughs Wellcome days. I've stayed in touch with many of the "alumni" over the years, and actually spoke with Kevin on the phone last year when I was visiting Grand Rapids on business. I will always remember Kevin as an extremely intelligent and savvy guy, who always gave me a hard time about being an Indiana Hoosier fan.

To the McConnell family our deepest sympathies. Whether seeing Kevin and talking with him or just having his name come up in conversation brought good thoughts and feelings to mind. Witty and comical was he. And of course I recall the music he made (Tave), the funny song titles and joy he had for life. Our thoughts will always be good about Kevin and now our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To the McConnell family, I have many good memories of Kevin not only from high school, but we worked together at GSK. I could always count on Kevin for a few good laughs, some great career advice, an in-depth update on politics, and of course his allegiance to the Sparties. His sincere personality offered him lifetime relationships with customers and colleagues. He thought so much of his family, and was very proud of sharing what his kids were up to. Kevin will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dear Renee and family,
I was so shocked to be told about this today. I knew Kevin through St. Lukes/Covenant. He was my favorite drug rep. I frequently saw him at the dance recittals and he was always as personable as ever. Words cannot begin to express my sadness for you. He will be greatly missed by the entire community. I am so very sorry for your loss.

The impact of one person's life ripples through the universe, and the loss of such is felt by many. Our family was flying back from Florida when we heard the sad news of Kevin's death, and the first two things I remembered were (a) how lightning quick he was as an athlete and (b) how he, as Tave, would stand up there with his band and sing, "I can grow my goat..." soooo many years ago. Those memories will always remain. Our thoughts are with the family through this painful time.
