Betty Hoffman Arey
SALISBURY - Betty Hoffman Arey, 81, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Forsyth Select Specialty Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Betty was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Emmanuel Calvin and Myrtle Stoner Hoffman.
She was a member of Flat Creek Primitive Baptist Church and retired from Faith Elementary School as a third grade teacher. She was married to Johnny Calvin Arey for a blissful 59 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Hoffman of Charlotte.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; sister Jo Ford and husband Charles; son Timothy Arey and wife Carolyn of Salisbury; daughter Kathy A. Cranford and husband Chris of Salisbury; son Mark Arey and wife Tina of Advance; and son Steven Arey and wife Lynn of Huntersville.
She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all who she loved and adored: Amanda Cranford Trexler, husband Travis and son Jaxon, and David (DC) Cranford, PFC John David (JD) Arey, Chasen, Karch, Spencer and Beaven Arey, Dustin, Brooke, Brandi and Casey Arey. She also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home.
Service: Funeral service will be conducted by Wayne Gravely at Flat Creek Primitive Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at church cemetery.
Memorials: May be made to Flat Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Clyde Arey, 1220 St. Matthews Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.

Mrs. Arey was my third grade teacher at Faith Elementary School. She was such a sweet lady. My deepest sympathies go out to each and every family member. May the Lord bless you all. Betty will always be in my memories!
