I never met Mrs. Musial, but I took the time to read the memorials to her from people who were touched by her generosity. What a wonderful way to be remembered...there are so many touching stories here about her selflessness and giving spirit. May her life and her generosity be an inspiration to us all, and may her eternal reward reflect the seeds of kindness that she sowed that will grow and bloom forever.

My dad sat next to Mrs. Musial at the 1956 All Star Game in D.C. She took the program home, had Stan and Ted Kluszewski sign it, and mailed it to me. It was extremely kind of her. I still have it and one signed by Stan in 1962. Thank you again Mrs. Musial. RIP.

"My brother & I were about 10 & 12 when we moved to a new house in St. Louis Hills. We soon found out that Stan Musial lived very close and we rode our bikes over to their house, rang the doorbell and though we were disappointed Stan was not at home, Mrs. Musial asked us if we were neighbor boys and then proceeded to give us each a baseball. She was a wonderful woman and Stan's better half. We will never forget that moment in time...ever. May she rest in peace."

My sympathies to the family. What a life they shared! I am originally from St. Louis, but live in Colorado now. We are die hard St. Louis Cardinal's fans. Stan and Lil actually lived around the corner from my husband years ago in St. Louis Hills. He loves to talk about his childhood memories. My husband's (Bob Cuba) house was 6264 Westway Place. He truly cherishes those times.

Peace in your time of loss,
Margaret

When I was 13, I lived in St Louis and was standing outside of the stadium one evening around 1 hour before the game was scheduled to begin. Mrs. Musial was walking to the stadium and noticed me standing by the door. She asked me if I was lost. I answered "no" that I was just standing around, with less than $1.00 in my hand, hoping to purchase someone's unwanted ticket. Mrs. Musial told me it was my lucky day and that she knew a few people around "the place" and had an extra ticket because her son could not make it to the game. She invited me in as her guest, complete with popcorn and soda. She asked me to call her "Lil" and I had no idea who she was until after the game when she told me she wanted me to meet someone. We stayed around until one of the players signed autographs for EVERY fan present (all the other players had by this time left the stadium) , then she introduced me to her husband! Stan Musial gave me a signed ball, which I asked Mrs. Musial to sign as well. I still have the ball...and the memories. Your actions served as an inspiration to me, Mrs. Musial, and I will never forget your generosity and simple kindness. My sincere condolences to her son, Dick, and to her many family member and friends. (Dick, thanks for being busy that night!)
May 08, 2012
With sincere sympathy to the Musial family. My father had the honor of meeting the Musials at breakfast in Florida one year, and Stan kindly offered autographed cards for his grandchildren. They are treasured keepsakes to this day, and it was a thrill for my dad to meet such a lovely, gracious couple - such a fine lady and gentleman. Rest assured you remain in the hearts and prayers of many, today and in the days ahead.

In the early eighties, Mrs. Musial did me a great kindness. I was a cub reporter in need of good stories. She knew me slightly through our mutual hairdresser D'Gene Vallet. She set me up with an interview with her husband, Stan, on life in retirement. The two of them talked to me. The story wrote itself. Her action was pure kindness to a youngster.

My condolences to Stan and his family. I grew up in Donora in the forties and fifties and idolized Stan. I knew Lil well since, when I was a kid, I would shop at Labash's grocery store and only allow Lil to wait on me because I knew she was Stan's wife. I used to tell people that they named their first child, Dickie, after me. For everyone in Donora, Stan and Lil were the love story of the times.

A couple of memories of a great lady, from a CBC classmate of Dick's and a neighborhood urchin:
A simple idea of how Mrs. Musial thought.... I always addressed Stan Musial as MR Musial( to this day). One evening when we were all about 25-26 , Mrs. heard me greet him as MR. and said " Kenny you can call him STAN, that's what everyone calls him." I couldn't at age 10 or 45 or whenever.

Mrs. Musial was one of the first Moms I knew when I moved to St. Louis at age 10. She was always nice to us kids ( No matter how noisy). She taught us the rudiments of dancing, playing Julie London - The Tennessee Waltz - Koolija was a Wooden Indian ...etc. I used to show up about 8 AM at their house and call Dick out. Mrs. Musial would say Dickie was about to eat breakfast, but would serve me too. That worked well until she mentioned how polite I was while eating breakfast. My Mom told her I was mooching a Second breakfast - that ended that.
There are too many small tales about how great both Stan and Lil were to us kids , then teenagers, then adults.

Thank you.
May 05, 2012
Stan, I am saddened to hear of Lillian's passing. Yes, Cardinal Nation mourns with you. I am one of those kids you and Red Shandies came to visit in German St Vincents Orphanage Home. Lillian was inspirational in helping less fortunate children such as I.
May 05, 2012
Stan and family,

Our prayers are with you as you suffer this great loss. Know that Cardinal Nation mourns with you and while we know she is with the God she loved and served, it is no less painful for those left behind. Stan, we love and wish we could comfort you, but only God can offer that. If I remember correctly, the organist used to play "Love Walked In" as you came to bat. Now we know why! God comfort and bless you! Dick and Marilyn Boyd

Dear Stan and Family,

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of a much loved wife, mother and grandmother. My sincere condolences to you and your entire family.

Having been a youngster watching you play in sportsman's park, and being privileged to play catch with you when you were in left field one day. I was in the bleachers with my cousin and you threw the ball to us and we threw it back.

You have no idea how much two little boys swelled with pride to play catch with Stan the Man that day.

God Bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Sincerely,

Art
