Howard Wayne Harkey
SALISBURY - Howard Wayne Harkey, 55, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at his home.
He was born Nov. 6, 1956, in Stanly County, the son of Genevieve Katherine Poda Harkey and the late Julius Elvin Harkey. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Howard graduated from Charlotte Olympic High School. He was a retired Captain of the Salisbury Fire Department, a Captain of the Rowan County Rescue Squad, was an instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and other fire-related classes.
Howard was an avid donator to The PURSE and a member of NRA. He had a degree in Homeland Security and was a Rescue Instructor all over the State of North Carolina.
Those left to cherish his memories are wife Veronica Holt; adopted son Jason Harkey of Salisbury; stepson Christopher Mauro of New Jersey; stepdaughters April Campbell of Charlotte and Jenifer Mauro of Salisbury; brothers Mike and Jeff Harkey of Charlotte; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at High Rock Community Church, 708 Jake Alexander Blvd. W, Salisbury, NC.
Service: 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6 at High Rock Community Church with Pastor Jon Allen officiating. The Firefighters Service will be provided by the Salisbury Fire Department Honor Guard.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lyerly Funeral Home, P.O. Box 279, Salisbury, NC 28145.
