Lou's cat would comb her face... not her belly: I made a mistake there...

Why God; did you take my best friend of almost 42 years… I will miss him so much… He always remembered our anniversary; of the day we met, and my birthday with cards and on every holiday, with always kind wishes and greetings; and “…give my love to the kids, Love Lou”… The way he always wrote the two ‘L's; I will miss that too.
I wish I would have known that he passed away… I would have driven the 740 miles to get there to say good bye to him… I missed his services… I am so sad and heartbroken… I thought he would live a long time; like his mom and brother did… I called his home many time… the first time I heard the message machine I thought I dialed the wrong number…
He would walk around the block and give treats to all of the dogs; with permission from the owners… he said all the dogs knew when he was coming; the dogs would get so excited and start doing the happy bark… and go near the sidewalk and wait… I know they miss him so much…
Lou was just the best friend ever. Many of the neighbors were so good to him also, like when he was in the hospital; the twins would come and shovel all the snow off of his walk ways. I know they will miss him, too.
He always had the loveliest yard with flowers in the front of his place that went along the sidewalk to his home. He really did know how to give his best in every way possible.
I remember one of his cats; he had trained her to comb her own hair on her belly… He would be combing her long hair on her back, sides and tail; then she would roll over on her back so Lou could comb her belly; he would start to comb her belly, and Lou would say “I am tired of combing you.” He would give the cat the comb and the cat would comb her own hair on her belly… I have it on video. :-) She was a very smart cat. He would tell her to “Go untie Mary's shoe laces”, and she would…

There are many things I will miss about Lou. I'll miss his nightly phone calls, and often messages left on my phone when I wasn't home. I'll miss the bags of veggies and fruit that were left on my mirrow of my car while I was at church. I'll miss the bags of fruit and veggies hanging on my gate, to see when I came home. I'll miss his listening ear, his advice and his kindness. I'll miss how he gave me starters of plants, and telling me how to grow them so they wouldn't die. I'll miss him always bringing me plants for me grow and how to grow them where and how in my yard. I'll miss how he would enjoy the bread or muffins that he always said he enjoyed, and how much he appreciated the hearts I'd put on his door when it was his birthday. I'll miss how he looked forward to that as he really got excited for that. A fun memory I had with him was one evening we were talking about the chocolate bar (we had in common-our favorite one) and how he ate it. He said, I take 2 squares, and break them in 1/4ths and let each piece melt in my mouth. I said I do the same thing! And he laughed. I will miss him waving at me every time he was outside and I drove by. I will miss him, and am thankful for his example and kindness and friendship.

I will miss alot about Lou. I will miss his daily phone calls. I will miss how understanding he was. I will miss his advice. I will miss the vegetables in placed in bags on my car window when I was in church, or on my gate to my home. I will miss how he brought me vegetable plants to grow, and instruction to grow them. I will miss how he gave me starts of plants, and telling me how to make sure they wouldn't die at my hand!-as everything he touched truly multiplied and flourished. I will even miss how we shared our chocolate bars, that we had in common, and even how we pieced them up, and let the pieces melt in our mouth. He told me how he ate the chocolate one day, and I said, I do the exact same thing, break the square in 1/4th...and we laughed. There's much more as he touched my heart in so many ways.
