Alice Shappell

Alice Margaret (Parker) Shappell, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her daughter's home in Pueblo, Colorado. Born December 27, 1929 in Tolesboro, Kentucky, to Charles and Ada (Moore) Parker, she was a devout Christian, and a tremendous role model and mentor. Alice had an amazingly diverse life as a business machine instructor, Federal civil servant with the Internal Revenue Service, Soldier (both in the Regular Army and the United States Army Reserve), elementary school reading teacher, bookstore founder and manager, and million-dollar selling realtor - in addition to being a wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, CW4 (USA, Ret) Ralph R. Shappell, brothers Jack, Elmer, and Clark, and sisters Francis, Virginia, and La Veda. Alice is survived by her brothers Tony Parker (and wife Sharon Parker) and Richard Parker (and wife Sue Parker), both of Cincinnati, Ohio; her daughter Sally Kilpatrick (and husband Kelsal Kilpatrick) of Pueblo, Colorado; son COL (USA, Ret) Steven Shappell (and wife Dr. Cindy Shappell) of Lorton, VA; and son Dr. Scott Shappell (and wife Dr. Heidi Shappell) of Pueblo, CO; two granddaughters (Erin and Lauren Shappell, both of Lorton, VA); and grandson Travis Shappell of Portland, Oregon. Alice is also survived by her three step-children, Ralph Shappell, Jr. (and wife Heidi), Randy Shappell (and wife Sharon), and Elaine Deitrich (and husband Carl Dietrich), all of Mohrsville, PA.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2015, at Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, Texas. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, 11 a.m. at New Braunfels Presbyterian Church, New Braunfels,Texas. Reverend Bob Malsack will officiate. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association.
