RIP my friend...Thanks for being part of my life.
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time.
As Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom.
His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
Liz, We are so saddened to hear of Ralph's death. He was one of those guys with so much energy you expect him to be around forever. He had a great, easy smile, gave so much of himself. You two were so good together - it was clear the deep affection you had for each other. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family on your loss.

I had the honor to meet Ralph when I was a volunteer on the Alamo Honor Flight #3. Ralph was an absolute joy to be with and I'm happy to have had the opportunity to know him, if only for a few days. Those few days gave me memories for a lifetime.
He was a very special man. The times he and I spent alone...traveling to sporting events, talking while he made soldiers for his chess set, driving to new developments, allowing me to get involved in every sport imaginable, with him by my side...were the best times! He always is in my heart...in my mind; and, will always be in my memories. I love him so much and will continue to always think of him.
Liz, Beth, Mark, Kristin and Steven, what a remarkable man Ralph was. We send the best and all of our love,
Derrick and Georgia Tracy
Ralph was truly a rare individual that possessed much wisdom and richness of life. In conversation, he made you feel like a long lost friend even if you just met him. Ralph was one of those men that you could not help but respect and admire. But at the same time, he made you feel at ease and comfortable. I feel fortunate to have had the great opportunity to know him. He certainly left us all with great memories. My sincere sympathies to his beloved family during this time.
Beth, Mark and Liz,
I have just learned of Ralph's passing, he'll be missed by many. Please accept my deepest sympathy.
What an incredible man and story! Liz my heart goes out to you and the family!
Dear Mark and Liz,
My thoughts are with you both as I remember the love your father had for his children. He always treated me like family, and I'll never forget his welcoming personality.
Liz: I first met you and Ralph at one of the very first Sports Foundation receptions on the top of a funky building on Broadway downtown. I will never forgot the energy you both brought to a room every time you were present. My prayers are with you during this sad time. Kathy
Thinking of Ralph, as we are all doing, I remember the first time I met you both. Marshall brought me to a Lackland Fiesta parade and celebration and I immediately was “drawn in.” Twenty years later, it is still the same. What a gift we have been given and one that I will treasure always. Please know I am thinking of you, sending you and the Bender Family many warm thoughts and remembering…. The heart remembers. Lovingly,
Liz , Beth and Mark , there are no words to express the emtiness that Ralph leaves but I know that all that knew Ralph will remember all his accoplishments, his great humor ,dynamic personality and Love for ALL. Liz, Our thoughts are with you and all of Ralph's family.
Ralph's energy was contagious -- so full of life and so positive in every moment. He was such a remarkable man that it seems that in his 88 years of life, it was simply too short. We will miss him dearly and feel so fortunate to have met both of you. There will always be a part of Ralph in Chicago in this wonderful home he helped us create.
Our sympathies with you.
