I was so sorry to hear of Dougs passing several months ago. He was one of the most remarkable people I ever met. My favorite memory of him is the trip we made down the "Alcan Highway" from Anchorage to Minnesota. He did most of the driving so got to see all the sights. If we couldn't find a place to stop for the night we slept in the van. Doug liked to bargain for a good price. One time at a lodge he asked if they had a military rate-NO-Senior rate-NO, so he joked with the manager-How about a clergy rate? Another time we stopped at a very old log roadhouse and upon entering the building Doug spied a Marine flag above the bar.
He soon was engaged in a lively discussion with the Marine-owner. We got free meals and room that nite! I feel fortunate to have known Doug. So Good-By and Thanks for the Memories. I salute you! Semper Fi and God Bless America.
