I knew and enjoyed John since we met in the Washington, DC area in 1976. He was a good friend and we kept in touch after he moved to California. We all lost a good person and I miss him greatly.

Now I understand why John did not respond to my Christmas Card. He would always call me around the holidays, and my birthday, to catch up on our lives.

I will miss John and our gentle jibes and interesting talks.

After hiring John into the US Navy Undersea R&D Center we became great friends. He was my go-to guy when I needed someone to read and analyze a document or report. He was very detail oriented, and never missed an error or something that made no sense. While he, himself, was very capable of putting together complex reports and analyses in a cogent and cleary understandle way. I always appreciated him for talent and ability.

We enjoyed many lunches together, both while we were working together and later after we were both retired. One of my high points when traveling back to San Diego was spending a day with John, at one of his favorite restaurants - the German Restaurant in Pacific Beach, or the Original House of Pancakes in Carmel Ranch.

I am sorry not to have known of his passing, I would have certainly wished to have attended any memorial services that were held.

John was a very caring and giving person, and I certainly understand his final wishes. That is just like him!

John was my gentle, jovial, and generous friend for 26 years. My husband & I will especially miss celebrating our 3 birthdays every July as we have the last 16 years.
John always went out of his way to be truly helpful such as the time he helped me re-enter the workforce—not easy in my forties. He not only told me about an opening where he worked but met me near personnel on his lunch hour to explain the infamous application while we sat in my hot car. I got the job and stayed for 12 years. I am forever grateful.
A lot of John's career there was communicating with the whole Center. His letters and emails were easy to understand, he got his facts right, and gave us just the details we needed.
He made a lot of friends off the job too. A good listener for sure, he always asked others how they were and didn't dwell on his own problems. All this equals a prince of a guy.

I was in the entering class of '56 at St. Stanley's Seminary, a year ahead of John, and knew John throughout our Jesuit training years. He was not only a very kind guy, easy to be with, he excelled at his studies and in his friendships. He will be missed.
