Almighty Father, eternal God, hear our prayers for Your son Paul Brown whom You have called from this life to Yourself. Grant him light, happiness, and peace. Let him pass in safety through the gates of death, and live forever with all Your saints in the light You promised to Abraham and to all his descendants in faith. Guard him from all harm and on that great day of resurrection and reward raise him up with all Your saints. Pardon his sins and give him eternal life in Your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Les was like paint or wallpaper in my grandmother's kitchen; he did what he was there to do for as long as it took to do it; and, now that he is gone, reflecting on his presence gives one a sense of belonging, a sense that things that matter are where they belong. We are well served when most of our public employees are like him. God grant those who knew and loved him best, the peace that He only can give.

I was fortunate to work with Les at the beginning of my career and the end of his at VDF back in 1981-1982. His humor, stories of his experience and his professionalism was a great asset for all of us "newbies". I admired and respected him greatly. My condolences to his family for their loss.

As a young cadet deputy sheriff in 1973 I remember meeting Les as he worked the north county civil car. On a great many occasions I had the opportunity to visit with him and always found him to be encouraging and an all around great guy. His passing marks the continuation of the fading out of a very special generation of peace officers.
