Butler, Daniel Heathcote DEL MAR -- Daniel Heathcote Butler was born on October 29, 1937 in San Francisco, Calif. His family moved to San Diego in 1942 and settled in Point Loma. After graduating from Point Loma High School, Dan attended Menlo College and finished his studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara where he graduated with a degree in Economics. After school, he began working as a runner with the original Coldwell Banker commercial real estate company in the San Fernando Valley office in Los Angeles where he quickly became one of the largest producers in the company. In August of 1970, Dan met Diana Rogers at the Point Loma Tennis Club and they were engaged three months later. In 1979, Dan transferred to the downtown San Diego office and moved his family to Rancho Santa Fe. He started the 'Dan Butler Company' in the early eighties and took great pleasure developing commercial real estate properties in San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Work was enjoyable, but his greatest passion was his family. Every weekend was spent coaching his three children's soccer and baseball games, or traveling with the volleyball, cheerleading, and tennis teams. When the kids got older, Dan decided he wanted to serve his community so he ran for a seat on the Rancho Santa Fe Association Board where he was elected and served as a Director until 1994. He was a devout Catholic and a proud founding member of the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe. Dan was the original gentleman: kind, caring, generous, honest, charismatic, hard working, and a man who loved to dance. He had the ability to make perfect strangers feel comfortable enough to tell him their life story. He laughed often and loved much. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diana Rogers Butler; his brother, Richard (Marty); his three children, Dan, Brianne (Christo) Reynen, and Summer (Paul) Salazar; and his two grandchildren, Dawn and Colin Salazar. A Memorial Mass in celebration of Dan's life will be held Friday, August 9th at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Nativity in Rancho Santa Fe. In lieu of flowers, the Butler family would appreciate donations in Dan's name to the Covenant House or the Nativity Catholic Church.

I've known Danny for about 70 years...I grew up with Danny, Richie, The Gordon Girls (Trudi, Gail, and Candy)..All our Moms were best of friends, so we did a lot of things together. You could never meet a nicer guy than Dan...All of us went to Point Loma and were lifelong friends. Dan and I were in the same "social" club at PLHS, and if Dan was around there was never a shortage of girls, as he was the most handsome guy at school....I know he fought a brave battle and I will miss him...Rest in Peace old friend......Steve and Susi Aldridge (Ocean Beach and Seeley Lake, Montana)

Some of the best memories I have of Danny are when Trudi and I would run into Diana and Dan, usually at a wedding or a family function, good times and laughter always. To the families of Diana and Richie , I am so sorry, peace at last. Jim Shoughro and Trudi in spirit
