Erickson, Russell D. CARLSBAD -- Russ was born May 13, 1916 in Chisholm, Minnesota. He enlisted in the USCG in 1937 and served until 1969 as Commander. Among the first to arrive after the bombing of Hiroshima, he received a Bronze Star and other awards for bravery. A devoted family man, Russ cared for his first wife Dorothy who died in 1969. He was loving father to Jane, Susy and Lucy, and loving husband to his wife Eileen. He was a devout Lutheran, jack of all trades, first to volunteer, but ever modest. Sailing and wood working were joys in his life. Russ died peacefully at home in Carlsbad on Sept. 19, 2013, survived by Eileen, Lucy and Jane, grandson John Blessing, 4 step daughters, 10 step grandkids, & 6 great step grandkids. Memorial service at Redeemer by the Sea on October 14 at 11 a.m., followed by a private inurnment with full military honors at Miramar National Cemetery.
