It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since my friend Sandy Allen passed away. As many of the remembrances on this website attest, Sandy was much admired for her compassion, sense of humor and willingness to make those who are "different" feel better about themselves. She was especially devoted to children, giving talks at elementary schools about tolerance and acceptance, and was a member of the Pacers Reading Program where she read to kids and let them try on her big shoes. During the last year of her life, Sandy worked with me on a book aimed at young people about her high school experiences in Shelbyville, Ind. By sharing this especially challenging time in her life, she continues to give back to children with her message of being proud and standing tall. If you would like more information on "World's Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High," please visit my website at www.thegiantessbook.com. RIP, my tall, funny friend.
