We are so sad to hear of Dan's passing.
His music and acting made a
great contribution to the world.
His humor & enthusiasm made him a joy
to be around. We'll always remember
the fun we had playing music together
on the deck with you guys.
Steve Harding & Elizabeth Wright
The summer of '67, freshly gradusted from my Stockton, California high school, I started a band, the Ether Sea, with some friends. As the summer progressed into fall the band went thru several personell changes, including at one point, a search for a permanent guitar player. On a bus ride back from San Jose our singer Steve met a gentleman named Dan who was on his way to the State hospital on California street for a much needed rest. As they spoke Dan mentioned being a guitarist who was taking a break from the recording band he and his brother had and that he might be interested in joining our band after his stay.
Steve and the rest of our band went out to the hospital one evening and met with Dan. A gracious, relatively quiet gentleman, we enjoyed our evening playing cards and chatting with him. Ultimately, Dan decided to return back to the bay area to rejoin his brother and put his band back together. Curious, I purchased WCPAEB: Vol. 2 and fell instantly in love with it. The purchase of Vol. 3: A Child's Guide To Good & Evil in 1968 and seeing WCPAEB perform in a side room later that summer at a festival my band also played at in the main room made me a lifelong admirerer and fan of both Dan, Shaun, and anything WCPAEB. Over 20 years later I proudly passed on their legacy by turning my son and his band, Cradle Of Thorns (on Relativiy's XXX Records) onto the WCPAEB, which strongly influenced much of what they recorded in the 90's.
Any and all recordings by Dan, Shaun, WCPAEB, and Markley will always find a place of high significance in any musical medium (vinyl, tape, or digital) I will ever choose to own. Nearly 50 years later I still live deeply in the world of music, these days as Gregg Allman's roadie with the Allman Brothers Band.
Meetimg Dan greatly enriched my life and he will be greatly missed.
RIP Danny. Member of one of the all-time greatest of 60s bands. I still play the records all the time. The music will live forever.
I only met you once but what a vibrant man you were. When I saw you dancing on a stage at a concert I thought there's a man with a lot of spirit who loves life. You will be very missed especially by Vicky and Meesh. I know you will keep the angels smiling.
This earth will never be the same without you. I know you are teaching the angels a thing or two with your beautiful voice and talent. I am so grateful to have had you in my life. Please continue to keep Vicki and Meesh safe and sound as I know you will always!
Dan, I love you soooo much! What can I say? 28 1/2 years+ of knowing you and loving you as the best stepfather in the world! Oh what fun we had! How you made such an impact of my life. Thank you for loving me and my mom as you did and entertaining us all with your wit and sillyness! I love you, RIP Dan.
Daniel Duffey Harris, It saddens me that you, a man of such great talent has left this world. My prayers are with you and you will always be in my thoughts. Rest in peace, Mr. Harris
I was saddened to hear of Daniel's passing - He was indeed an enjoyable character and never failed to wave or say hello when I encountered him publicly - Best wishes to you and your family Vicky! Miss you both at the shows!
Daniel, you will be missed! I enjoyed the music we made together and, like your father's song, I'll be "Waitin'" to see you again someday.
Daniel...no-one smiled like you...no-one laughed like you...such a happy person to be around. Cambria has lost such a wonderful character. I will always remember you and the times shared at the Pewter Plough Playhouse.
I think about you often Dan & I always smile- You made friends so easy, and you had a unique way of making me laugh. You are missed and will live in our hearts forever. Cheryl & Randy McDowell
