I played tennis with Jack off and on for much of the past 10 years. You learn a lot about a person when you play tennis against them. In Jack's case it didn't matter if he was struggling to reach a ball that his tired old knees could no longer push him to reach or him pumping his fist after successfully executing one of his “all day” shots, he gave the game his all. My sense is that Jack was passionate about tennis in the same way he was about the rest of his life.
One thing that I am certain about is that Jack touched my life and the lives of his other tennis buddies in a special way. Quick to offer help and advice, he was a true friend and he will be missed.

My condolences to his family and I will remember you in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Susan,
Getting to know Jack this last year has been such a pleasure. It was obvious what a fine person he was and
full of such positive energy. When he arrived @ the gym people migrated to him and the mood elevated instantly. We
are so terribly sorry for your loss.

Love, Marilynn & Gerry

I heard of Jack's death just yesterday (Sunday), and the sense of loss I felt was overwhelming. I worked with Jack for many years and he was one of the most loving and caring educators I had ever met. I spent many years working beside Jack and always found him to be a very compassionate and child/student oriented administrator in our local school districts. He was truly a gifted and talented educator and human being. The world benefited greatly by his life. Jack was a great colleague and friend and I will miss him greatly. May his family and friends rejoice in the wonderful life that he shared with all of us.

Dear Susan,
I am so very sorry to hear of Jack's passing. Jill just let me know when we got back from Yosemite yesterday. I always loved the story of you and Jack... of family, love, and second chances.
Thinking of you and your family,
your friend, neighbor, and gym buddy,

Such a sad loss of such a great man. He was always fun to be with and shared such a love of life. He was taken way too soon and will be missed by all who knew him.

Susan, I truly regret the passing of Jack. I just asked about him at a 50th anniversary party of some mutual friends. I haven't seen Jack for years but used to play basketball on the same team in SLO back in the late 70's. He was truly one of "the good guys" you meet in life. I'm sure you'll miss him and so will the world. Love, Burt Caldwell
