I just found out today about the loss of Dr. Walters. I am devastated and completely shocked by this news. He was one of the most down to earth doctors I have ever had. He has helped me through many ups and downs, and I knew he could always explain why and what to do about any situation. I never felt like I was being evaluated I just felt like I was a friend and we were catching up on life, because he always talked about his own life and family which made me feel normal. I send prayers to his family for their loss and to all his other patients and friends that are hurting. I can tell by all the posts that he has touched the hearts of many people. It is going to be very difficult to find a replacement for you, you are a one-of-a-kind!! Dr. Walters, I thank you for all your words of wisdom and I will miss you very much. "Yes please, I would love a diet coke" He never failed to ask the question, "what would you like to drink, diet or regular coke." RIP Dr. Walters. I will NEVER EVER forget you!!!

I just found out today! I'm heartbroken for him and his family. He was a wonderful doctor. I first saw him in the mid-nineties, then he went to ASH, and thankfully back to private practice. He was so smart, well read, funny and always offered a coke.

As I've been trying to keep up with caring for Bill's patients over this past month, I've realized that it's pretty hard to fill his shoes! As all the comments from patients indicate, he was a caring and generous man who used his self as well as his medical know-how to help people feel better.

I will miss our after-hours chats. He could wax poetic on subjects philosophical, political, historical, military, nautical, familial, psychiatric, athletic, and gastronomic.

I called him “the Admiral,” because he loved the ocean and his boats so much and because I could really imagine him keeping track of a whole fleet of vessels and commanding the respect of all those sailors. Bill, you commanded our respect, and we at Coastal Psychiatric Care miss you!

It has been over four weeks since I was told the devastating news of Dr. Walters death. He always offered me a rum and coke knowing full well that I don't drink, then he would have that smile and twinkle in his eyes.

His office was always serene, reflecting his love for sailing and all the honorable books on the shelves, I asked if he read, to which he replied "Every book on the shelves he read and could quote from them if I liked.

The first visit was the hardest visit for me, standing in the middle of his office crying my heart out, he gently sat me down and held my hand till I was calm. I will never forget how I felt after leaving his office, smiling not only on the outside but on the inside too. I will truly miss him and his faith...in all things. It will always seem odd to me that my last visit with him was one of the best ever.

I extend my heart felt sorrow and prayers to the family. He will be truly and deeply missed by all his patients.

Bill was an incredible, compassionate man. He was always willing to give his time and professional opinions. He will be missed in the Morro Bay Marina. We will miss his free spirit and positive outlook on life. Sail on Bill!
