Gene was our neighbor. He was extraordinary in so many ways. His incredible stories and memory, unbelievable will and kindness made us feel at home as new neighbors. We were sad when he moved away but marveled at his determination to pack himself! We are better for knowing him and will remember his excitement the day he got to tour Marine 1 in Eugene.

We knew him as, "Gene", Tara's dad...

Tara introduced us to her dad and invited him to our family gatherings several years ago. It was always a pleasure to have Tara bring Gene as he was always soooo friendly, outgoing and talkative. Although we came to know Gene in his later years, he told stories upon stories of his life. I think it was in order to bring us up to speed on all his accomplishments and happenings. Gene really seemed to have made the most of his life and expressed gratefulness for his opportunities. He never stopped until life finally stopped him. After all, as Tara relayed to us, that if you talked to her dad days before he passed, he would tell you that he would be "out of the facility and was going home next week". This was true all the way until the end of his wonderful life. He was always positive and cheerful, stoic and never complaining even if you could see the discomfort in his stride due to "a bad knee". Gene was always Mr. Cheerful and could make friends with a tree.

Tara shared her wonderful dad with our family and for that we are very grateful. She always speaks so fondly of her dad, Gene and we know she and the rest of the family will surely miss his magnetic personality.

Tara, thanks for sharing your dad with us. He was a pleasure to know and we will certainly miss him.

May you rest in peace, Gene.

Love from...Patty and Cecil Claspell
