Sorry to be six months late but I just found out about Rich. There wasn't another teacher or staff person at SLV in the 70s who meant more to me than Mr. Lien. He taught me how to play golf as a Freshman. I remember in the Spring of '71 at the Pasatiempo driving range as we practiced, I was complaining that my clubs were lousy (a women's set of irons). Mr Lien would have none of it... he said "Give me your four iron." I did, and doggonit, he knocked it 200 yards with a slight draw (his usual) right down the middle. Then he turned and handed me the club and said, "There's nothing wrong with this club that a good swing won't fix!" Wow! Now I had the greatest clubs! He named me MVP twice which honestly I never deserved, but it boosted my self-confidence to have someone believe in me. That's what Mr. Lien did for me most of all, he believed in me even when I had a hard time believing in myself. And all those long rides in the back of the Porsche 911 to the golf tournaments. It was a wonder I could play at all by the time we arrived! This was a man I followed, a man I admired. And I will miss him. Thank you Mr. Lien for being there for me when I needed you. A friend who stuck closer than a brother.

To the family of Richard Lien : I had the pleasure to know Richard Lien in the late 60's and He helped me in many ways being able to understand my self in his drame productions and being one of the first year golf team for SLV. Sometimes it takes a certain personality to modivate you to play better golf or to be able to project from the stage to the back row of the theatre. He even got us a chance to play Carmel at Pebblebeach. There was many good times so thank you Mr. Lien - You help me to learn to chalenge the world and believe in myself. My prayers go out to his family and do remember he was also a very good counsuler and person even when I couldn't figure him out. My very best to you all - Alan R. Andersen
