Our sympathy to Robert's family. Santa Cruz will never be the same without Robert's hug and his warm greeting whenever we met. He was a very special friend.

Unseasonable cold weather blew into Santa Cruz on Friday May 25th and took away our Robert. He would have wanted a bigger storm, like the one which carried Gilda Home. But, as he has been saying, Santa Cruz isn't getting the big ocean blows anymore. Not like in 1946 or even '82. I will miss my friend Robert for his quick smile and affection and his love of all things Wharf-Beach-Sea. He was Santa Cruz's best ambassador, shaking hands, giving hugs, sharing stories and feeding the millions of people who came through the door of Gilda's from all over the world. But, he gave his special attention and his heart to the people of Santa Cruz. To talk with Robert more than once was to invite him into your family or gathering of friends. He would remember every name and ask about the children or whoever wasn't present this time. He was a most charming man filled with Old World courtesy and New World friendly curiosity. Santa Cruz has seemed a bit more overcast and colder this past week. I miss my friend.
My heartfelt condolence and deepest sympathy to Dino, Malio and all family members whom he loved and who loved him. "Woo Wee Grandpa", he loved you all. No one who knew him could ever forget him. A special man born in a special place at a special time.
Vaya Con Dios, mi Amigo.
And Thanks.
Dan

Now he's with Gilda and the rest of the family that's preceded them, resting after a very fruitful life.
