Bob Near, age 54, passed away Sat., Dec. 12 of cancer. Bob attended school in San Jose, Saratoga and Hawaii, including Seabury Hall where his skateboarding adventures garnered more than a few stitches. He also played water polo and wrestled in high school. He lived most of his life in Santa Cruz and Aptos, CA, never being too far from the beach. He loved his pets, which included his Australian Shepherds, Brenda and Lisa, his adopted Shitzu, Shadow, and his cat, Moche. He also loved cars, his favorite being a red '61 Ford Galaxie Sunliner. He worked in the restaurant business, but spent most of his career as a field manager for Golden State Bulb Growers. Survivors include stepmother, Pat Near, brother, Randy Near, sister, Nancy Lawton, and stepbrother Rob Vanderhoof. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Jim Near and brother, John Near. For information regarding services contact [email protected].
