Dear Mary, Steven, Julie, Eric, and family – You've lost a beloved husband and father. Thank you for sharing him with
us. To me, Steve was all man and gentleman, legendary in his way, a gifted and generous story-teller, a reader of messages from the skies and of footprints on mountain paths, tipping his hat to the ladies and keeping his own counsel, charming all with his broad smile and twinkling eyes. Intimidating at times, impatient with dillydallying, with shoddiness, he did fine work, always turned out like an elegant cowboy, taking pleasure and pride in any and all tasks. He was a craftsman, creating lovely pieces of furniture in later years, aging gracefully. To John, he was, from childhood, a beloved uncle and teacher, a role model of faithful manhood. Strength without, a big heart within—an inspiration and ever a trusted and admired friend. To Julia, he was a handsome man whose strong arms lifted her onto ranch horses and taught her to love riding. The memory of his graciousness and warmth lives on in our friends and family, whose thoughts of the grandeur of Pecos will always be marked by images of Steve Royal. Much love .... and always, abrazos.

Having grown up as a city boy, Steve was one of my early heroes. He was exactly what I thought of as a cowboy. He had deep knowledge of the land around him and its history. He was physically and mentally strong and never complained. And he said exactly what he meant and not a word more.
Steve, you are greatly missed but live on through those you have touched.
Deepest condolences to the Roybal family.
