It has been over two years since the tragic loss of Sarah Burke. With the conclusion of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, its leaves me with mixed emotions. Joy in seeing women complete in the events that Sarah fought so hard to have added to the games, and sadness that she wasn't there to compete in them. Sarah's memory will be honored every time women ski down the pipe at the X Games, stand on the podium at the Olympics, or when young girls all over the world have dreams of freeskiing in these events.
On January 19th 2012 her family lost a loving daughter, sister, and wife. The freeskiing community lost a champion, mentor, and competitor. And the country lost nothing short of a true Canadian hero. She did however leave a blueprint for all of us on how to live our lives. To have fun and live life to the fullest, to respect one another and support each other, and to never give up on your dreams.
That is how I will honour her memory, to try and live my life like she did.

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in a manner so that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.

I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THIS. WINTER GAMES I WOULD WATCH HER SKI, I LOVE SKIING BUT I AM INTERMEDIATE. HER SKIING WAS VERY INTENSE AND CHALLENGING. I WOULD LOVE TO SKI LIKE THAT BUT I CAN'T. I ADMIRE PEOPLE WHO CAN DO THAT.
ONE DAY I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING HER AND TEACHING ME HOW TO SKI IN PARADISE. THE SCRIPTURES ARE VERY COMFORTING AND TRUE.
AGAIN WITH DEEP SYMPATHY.
