Alfio Bonacio Obituary

Alfio (“Al”) Bonacio Sr. Saratoga Springs, NY - Alfio (“Al”) Bonacio Sr., passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 3, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at Saratoga Hospital. He was 72. Born at Columbus Hospital in New York City on February 27, 1940, Al attended Seward Park High School, graduating in 1957. In 1962, while working at a bakery in New York, he met his wife, Linda Tychostup through his co-worker and soon to be father-in-law, Moe Tychostup. They were married June 16, 1963 in New York City. Al and Linda moved to Saratoga Springs to run Linda's great-grandfather's business, National Window Cleaning and raised their three children here. Sales were Al's passion, working at Leland Paper Company with commercial accounts and then becoming a real estate broker. Along with his wife Linda, Al opened Bonacio Real Estate. Al loved to cook and shared his skills with his children, neighbors, friends and grandchildren. He also loved to tell stories and share his opinion with all. He was a member of the Saratoga Elks Club and an avid snowmobiler. Al's love of the ponies was unparalleled. He enjoyed spending time at the Saratoga Race Track during the meet each August and later, with his health failing, he would handicap the races during dialysis, from his home “OTB”. Al is predeceased by his parents, Santo and Rosa Bonacia. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Linda; three children, Laura of Albany, NY, Sonny (Julie) and Tony (Jill), all of Saratoga Springs, NY; sisters, Mary Bonacia and Carmela Kasoff (Larry) of Forest Hills, NY; brothers Frank Bonacia of Whitestone, NY and Joe Bonacia of Boca Raton, FL; niece Melissa Kasoff of Forest Hills, NY and six grandchildren, Anthony, Addison, Alex, Gianna, William and Luca and his godson, Frank Sidoti. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 5pm Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, October 8, 2012 in the Church of Saint Peter, 241, Broadway, by the Very Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor. Burial will follow at Saint Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue. The family would like to thank Dr. Amy Hogan for her outstanding care and compassion during this time and the wonderful staff of Saratoga Hospital and the Rubin Dialysis Center. Memorials may be made in his name to Saratoga Hospital Care Foundation, 211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.

Linda, Sonny, Laura, and Tony,
I'm saddened to hear of Al's passing. Not so much for him, since I trust he has graduated to a different realm, but for you all who will miss him the most. Still you are fortunate to have had a patriarch that has touched many and left great memories. G-d Bless.

Dad,
It's only been a week since your gone and I miss you so much. You would not believe how many people came to pay their respects to you on Sunday and Monday...it was amazing and a true testament to how many lives you touched and what a great man you were. I got 5 sympathy cards today and mom is still getting flowers! David and Roz are amazing....they did so much and mama Theresa sent fried dough to the house....which everyone loved and Anthony got up and spoke at St. Peters about you and how he wished he could be half the man you were. He became a man that day and we were all so proud of him...Marty and Dennis Hellwig came and Dennis told Will/Luca and Alex what a great man you were....and Jeez Joe did the eulogy....amazing

Al,
My dear friend and boss when i was just 18 years old- worked doing windows and offices- seemed like you had a never ending drive to satisfy the customer- treated me like gold as a young man. May you be in peace and know how much your personality reflected on me to go after my goals.
Linda, I remember how upset you where when he gave me your new caddy and took my vet for the weekend so i could have it from the prom. I have lived by his example. My thoughts and prayers are with you and may these memories bring you confort on what a great inspriation he was for me.

Linda, Laura, Sonny & Tony,
We were so sorry to hear of Al's passing. We have the fondest of memories of Al and his great stories. A favorite of ours was your first fondu experience when you started cooking the meat directly over the fire leaving a bewildered waiter to explain the purpose of the pot of oil he was bringing to the table. It is said that angels fly because they take themselves lightly and that certainly applies to Al. May you find comfort in the support of your family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Linda, Laura, Sonny and Tony,

There are no words to describe the loss of our dear friend and neighbor Al. He was so kind and compassionate and he really loved Saratoga and he loved all of us in a genuine way. His humor made us laugh, his advice helped us when we were in need, and his compassion for life inspired us. We will miss his presence in the neighborhood but he will live in our hearts forever.

May God continue to bless him always.

Dad,
We all miss you so much and you won't believe it but the night you passed away we were all at the house and we were all telling stories about you and the grandchildren were a little rowdy and someone called the police and thought there was a domestic dispute...so for he first time in 49 years the police showed up at the house....we were all speechless and figured it was a sign from you saying enough is enough! Glad your still watching over everything!

Linda, Sonny, Tony and Laura,
I was so sad to hear of your Dad's passing. He was my first real estate agent when I moved here 16 years ago. When we were going to look at properties, I asked " well, how will I know who you are when I come into the office."? He said" well some say I look like Richard Gere or Rodney Dangerfield." So when I met him for the appointment, and I said " nice to meet you Richard" he laughed and so did I. I knew then he was someone who would make purchasing a home enjoyable.
After that, I worked for Al and Linda, and was so thankful for his expertise in real estate. He made me laugh everyday. What a great guy! I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family at this time.

Linda, Sonny, Laura, Tony--
It was special treat to know Al -- and through him, each of you. I have many great memories of Al over a span of many years, whether through pinochle, golf or food and spirits. He gave us all many laughs and even some profound conversations. I've not been in touch for a while and now far from St. Charles, but memories will last forever. I'm sorry for your loss but you, too, will have memories forever. When he made it to the pearly gates, you can bet he had some 'questions' for St. Peter. Yep, that would be Al.
