Mr. and Mrs. Menzie,

I don't know that you'll see this, and I can't imagine that you would remember me. But I feel compelled to write to you anyway.

I was a social work/education intern at Mount Sinai during the time that Gil was awaiting his new heart. All these years later, I still think of him and smile. For some reason tonight, I thought of him and decided to "google" him. When I found his obituary, I tried hard to make it not be him. But when I read the sentence about his determination, and his "fiery attitude that led more than one tutor to quit" - I laughed and cried at the same time, because I knew it must be the Gil that I remember!

I was working at summer camp when I got one of the best gifts of my life: a phone message from you that said, "Gil got his heart." I came to see him at your home at the nearby Trinity-Pawling School. It was a moment I will never forget.

I want you to know that the time I got to spend with Gil at Mount Sinai had a tremendous effect on my life. Gil was so incredibly brave, feisty, smart, handsome and fun - even in the hospital. I really do think of him still, and am so incredibly sorry for your loss.

I will always remember Gil with love and admiration, and wish your entire family strength and comfort.

All my best,
Meredith (Englander) Polsky

It hardly seems possible that three years have gone by. Missing him so much still!

Still think of Gil often... He was a great man. Miss his humor and his smile.
