I never knew Joanne... only knew of her through Wally Elton. But I knew that she meant the world to Wally. I know that I would have loved Joanne.

God Bless her beautiful soul.

I was a lost high school kid in 1978 when I wandered into the offices of the Greensboro Youth Council. I met a bunch of cool, empowered students, but even better, I met a woman who would change my life. Who taught me how to plan events, speak in public, work with people, develop a life-long obsession with colored pens, and most importantly, believe in myself. I went on to chair GYC, and later, take the role my mentor held for so many years and serve its director. So many of us are connected because of the work Joanne did, and even though I haven't seen her in years, I feel a very profound loss and an even greater sense of gratitude.

Joanne Taylor Bennett made a tremendous impact on so many of us who were teenagers in the Greensboro Youth Council. She taught us to organize and lead and work as a team skills that have served me very well in my adult life. I have Joanne to thank for many valuable life lessons. She will be truly missed.
