My heart is crushed to know that Slim is gone. His music was my first taste of country music and his special music lived in my heart and home from then on. I only met Slim once at a concert in Sacramento,Ca. He was alone in the hallway outside the auditorium after the crowd had gone back inside for the rest of the concert of multiple performers. Being shy, but being a lifelong lover of Slim's music, I approached him and asked for his autograph. The only paper I had with me was my driver's license, but Slim smiled and said that was ok, and he signed it. He was so kind and easy to talk with and those brief moments gave me insight into what a nice man he was, with no "star" attitude at all. (I had to report a lost drivers license in order to keep that treasure).
Rest is peace, Mr. Whitman, until that wonderful day our Creator restores you to life right here on earth when it is once again a paradise and you will be reunited with your lovely Gerry. We will look for you and once again hear that very special voice flow from a very kind and loving heart.

We had heard Slim Whitman's music back in the West Indies as young people and thought he was every bit as good as Elvis or the Beatles. We eventually met him personally in Marathon, Fl. Keys, when he asked us to work on his beloved fishing boat "Chicken of the Sea". We knew a lot of wealthy celebrities from our yacht engine repair business but Slim was a breath of fresh air. Courtly, friendly and always a perfect gentleman. Few people probably know this but Slim was also a pretty good mechanic and got involved personally with any problem or issue on his boat. His celebrity was one thing; his genuine decency topped it all and we know he'll be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Rest in Peace, Slim, you were a fine and talented gentleman.

I first heard Slim in about 1952 at the Empire theatre in Liverpool. He inspired a group of us young lads to yodel. We practiced on our street corner with our guitars. Rose Marie has been with us ever since. Even today, and for the last 15 years I have been imitating him around the residential homes of Sussex England, cheering the old folk who remember the greatest yodeller ever. He was a mega-star who had his feet on the ground, with always a friendly smile and a sincere handshake for his fans whom he looked upon as his genuine friends.
The world will miss you Slim, but I am sure that you will be welcomed with open arms ( and ears! ) to join in the praises of the God you know so well.
Thank you so much for all you did for me. God bless you
