William McCullough Obituary

William Freddie McCullough - BLOOMINGDALE - The man. The myth. The legend. Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him. William Freddie McCullough died on September 11, 2013. Freddie loved deep fried Southern food smothered in Cane Syrup, fishing at Santee Cooper Lake, Little Debbie Cakes, Two and a Half Men, beautiful women, Reeses Cups and Jim Beam. Not necessarily in that order. He hated vegetables and hypocrites. Not necessarily in that order. He was a master craftsman who single -handedly built his beautiful house from the ground up. Freddie was also great at growing fruit trees, grilling chicken and ribs, popping wheelies on his Harley at 50 mph, making everyone feel appreciated and hitting Coke bottles at thirty yards with his 45. When it came to floor covering, Freddie was one of the best in the business. And he loved doing it. Freddie loved to tell stories. And you could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%. Marshall Matt Dillon, Ben Cartwright and Charlie Harper were his TV heroes. And he was the hero for his six children: Mark, Shain, Clint, Brandice, Ashley and Thomas. Freddie adored the ladies. And they adored him. There isn't enough space here to list all of the women from Freddie's past. There isn't enough space in the Bloomingdale phone book. A few of the more colorful ones were Momma Margie, Crazy Pam, Big Tittie Wanda, Spacy Stacy and Sweet Melissa (he explained that nickname had nothing to do with her attitude). He attracted more women than a shoe sale at Macy's. He got married when he was 18, but it didn't last. Freddie was no quitter, however, so he gave it a shot two more times. It didn't work out with any of the wives, but he managed to stay friends with them and their parents. In between his many adventures, Freddie appeared in several films including The Ordeal of Dr. Mudd, A Time for Miracles, The Conspirator, Double Wide Blues and Pretty Fishes. When Freddie took off for that pool party in the sky, he left behind his sons Mark McCullough, Shain McCullough and his wife Amy, Clint McCullough and his wife Desiree, and Thomas McCullough and his wife Candice; and his daughters Brandice Chambers and her husband Michael, Ashley Cooler and her husband Justin; his brothers Jimmie and Eddie McCullough; and his girlfriend Lisa Hopkins; and seven delightful grandkids. Freddie was killed when he rushed into a burning orphanage to save a group of adorable children. Or maybe not. We all know how he liked to tell stories. Not sure what to say?

I just stumbled across this gem. I didn't know Freddie or his family but man, I sure wish I did. It has been almost 10 years now since this larger-than-life man left this earth but I hope the family sees this and knows that he is still leaving an impression on people who don't even know him. Blessings, love & light to the McCullough family & friends...

The joy Freddie brought into the world continues to live long after his own life ended. I especially have enjoyed re-reading the obit occasionally -- when the day is slow or I'm feeling blue; It picks me up reading all the laugh-out-loud antics -- and I am not the only person who gets the same renewed delight.

This was a beloved parent too -- and I know, as my own Dad was 'golden.'

May GOD continue his blessings on the McCullough family and Freddie's friends.

Freddie - you seem to still be quite the "Legend," even years after you've gone to Heaven! You sound like you were very loved and admired by your friends and family (and maybe some of them ex wives too lol) and I'm quite certain there's not a day that goes by, that you are not dearly missed by each and every one of them - I'm sure you're still brought up at the dinner table for family holiday dinners and everyone is brought to tears recalling your stories! You seem like you're definitely someone who would be causing a ruckus where ever you land...hope you're having a blast!

Freddie's family - I want whoever wrote his eulogy to contact me so we can write mine...you did a fantastic job!

Many blessings to you and your family!

Awe Freddie, a man after my own heart. Wish I could say I wrote your obit, but since I am no longer a Funeral Director, I enjoyed reading what someone with a good imagination put together in memory of you. Sounds like you had an interesting, living large life. I can just imagine John Wayne may have based his life on yours or vise versa..Really doesn't make a difference either way. I am truely sorry for your families loss..If you were mine, I would miss you to. R.I.P Freddie, maybe someday I will meet you in that Big Valley, Pondorsa, in the sky.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing him, but I visit Freddie's obituary every now and then when I'm feeling down or need a non-habit forming pick me up. What a wonderful tribute to what must have been a helluva man! Makes me feel better even with my own dad's passing in 2013. Thank you for sharing his story. Hello to Freddie's family, I hope you're doing all right.

Tonight it stormed really badly here. Jayden woke me up and wanted to stay up talking until it was over. We set up talking the last four hours and he got a good laugh at me tonight too. I told him what I use to do when it stormed (if we're being completely honest ... If it would drizzle over a slight mist) I told him how I was always convinced that a tornado was coming and I would drag my mattress to the hall way and sleep under it. (maybe watching hurricane and tornado preparedness videos as a kid wasn't a good move) I remember many nights that both you and mom would comfort me through those storms, and through life's storms. No matter how old we grow to be, we will need and want that comfort. Tonight in the very second that I thought, I wanna tell daddy about Jayden reaction to our thunderstorm stories and I'd like to tell him about a few other storms, I got an email notifying me of a new guestbook entry and I found a moment of comfort. I miss you and long for those little moments more often. I love you Daddy. Thank you.

Chest is burning, Eyes are misty, cheeks a little wet, but I'm smiling! A shot of Jim Beam in your memory. Your stories and my thoughts of you are keeping me company tonight, your guestbook is oddly comforting. Thank you too all who have taken the time to sign. A Daddy's Girl never needs to be told how great their dad is. But, This did remind me how lucky to have had the chance to be My Daddy's girl.

Dad, hope your having better luck on the lake than we did today. It's like the fish know, can't seem to get a bite without you! RIP Dad.

I've been thinking about you a lot lately and missing you even more than previously as if that where even possible, When I woke up this morning , there was a message informing me , your book is coming down soon. Isn't it amazing how we scramble to grasp at anything we can to hold on to those we love, I miss the sound of your voice and re comfort it always brought with it. I know I was truly blessed to have you in my life no matter how long it was, it still wasn't enough and life without you in it just simply isn't the same. Before you came into my life I wasn't living, I was just simply existing living day to day going through the motions and then you showed me it was ok to not just love others but to love myself as well and for that I am eternally grateful, Until we meet again and all with all my love.

I've been following this guest book for awhile now. I see it is set to expire in a few days. I hope you are able to extend the time and keep it online. If not, I feel certain your Dad will continue to live on in the memories of those who knew him. Some people are just that unforgettable....

September 9, 2015

This guest book has been a joy to read. I'll never forget when it was brought to my attention. So many entries have been added since I made my first entry. I do hope that Freddie's children will make copies of the entries and maybe publish them in a book form, if for no one else, them and his close friends. But who knows, there are many who have signed this that might also love a copy of a book about Freddie. Long live the memory of Freddie McCullough!!!

Like many people, I have read and re-read this obit more than a dozen times since I first happened upon it. It has shared it with friends all over the Internet.

When you consider how few people take the time to write 'A Note Of Condolence' upon the death of their OWN family members, it is amazing the number of people who have paused, chuckled and then seriously reflected on the end of Freddie's life.

Obviously, this obit has (in a way of thinking) 'kept him alive.' Others who never knew of 'the joy' he brought, now smile at the stories of his adventures, affection for family and his talents. It is a tribute to his clan (and his son, who authored this delightful, well crafted wordsmithing) that so many now yearn for the lost chance to have called Freddie: 'MY FRIEND."

How lucky the world was to have had a man like 'FREDDIE!'
