To The Family of Al Gunderson:

On behalf of the membership of the USS Bennington Association, please accept my belated condolences on the loss of your loved one.

Gone from us physically but as long as Al is remembered by just one of us, he'll be remembered always.

We thank you for Alfred's service to God & Country and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Please know that on August 17th of this year that Al shall be remembered at our Annual Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony in Bennington, VT., at the actual ship's bell monument in front of the Town Office Building. Alfred's name will be read from a listing of those who have gone before us and the bell will toll in his memory as he now stands "The Eternal Watch"....

With My Deepest Sympathy,

To the family of Alfred Gunderson:

I was a member of the Air Group aboard USS BENNINGTON on May 26, 1954 when Alfred earned his commendation medal. We thank him for his heroism and devotion to duty. I will share his obituary with a couple other BENNINGTON sailors. We lost two officers and two stewards mates in the explosions and my best friend was severely injured. Go to USS BENNINGTON website and crews story for more information on the explosions. You can also see Alfred's commendation there.

Alfred will be missed by his shipmates forever.
